I can totally empathize with the people of Texas. About a year ago, in Australia, when my state was facing horrific bush fires (which came as close as 2 kilometers from where I live, our Prime Minister- Scott Morrison went on a holiday to Hawaii. His excuse was, he promised his 2 daughters a holiday. Hopefully many voters in my state of NSW wont forget that when it comes to the next elections.

(34,439 posts)unlike the former US president, officials in Aus learned from that mishandling and handled COVID much more effectively. So she thought voters might weigh that. I think she was referring most directly to the premier of Victoria.

(497 posts)which was one of the worst hit areas at the time. When covid happened our conservative federal government did a good job with the covid stimulus packages. As for controlling the pandemic itself, much of the credit should go to the individual states. There were times when every state was closed down to outsiders which helped control the spread. If we were asked to wear a mask, we did. If we were asked to get tested and quarantine, we did.
I'm very proud of my country for how everyone pulled together and controlled covid. Fortunately, we still have less than 1000 fatalities and its been a few months since we had our last one. Its hard to get in or out of the country at the moment, but to tell you the truth, there is nowhere else I'd rather be.
