An Ex-KGB Agent Says Trump Was a Russian Asset Since 1987. Does it Matter? (with photographic proof)

In 2018, I became either famous or notorious — depending on your point of view — for writing a story speculating that Russia had secret leverage over Trump (which turned out to be correct). The story’s most controversial suggestion was that it was plausible, though hardly certain, that Russia’s influence over Trump might even date back as far as 1987.

Here is what I wrote in that controversial section:

During the Soviet era, Russian intelligence cast a wide net to gain leverage over influential figures abroad. (The practice continues to this day.) The Russians would lure or entrap not only prominent politicians and cultural leaders, but also people whom they saw as having the potential for gaining prominence in the future. In 1986, Soviet ambassador Yuri Dubinin met Trump in New York, flattered him with praise for his building exploits, and invited him to discuss a building in Moscow. Trump visited Moscow in July 1987. He stayed at the National Hotel, in the Lenin Suite, which certainly would have been bugged. There is not much else in the public record to describe his visit, except Trump’s own recollection in The Art of the Deal that Soviet officials were eager for him to build a hotel there. (It never happened.)

Trump returned from Moscow fired up with political ambition. He began the first of a long series of presidential flirtations, which included a flashy trip to New Hampshire. Two months after his Moscow visit, Trump spent almost $100,000 on a series of full-page newspaper ads that published a political manifesto. “An open letter from Donald J. Trump on why America should stop paying to defend countries that can afford to defend themselves,” as Trump labeled it, launched angry populist charges against the allies that benefited from the umbrella of American military protection. “Why are these nations not paying the United States for the human lives and billions of dollars we are losing to protect their interests?”

From The Guardian:

According to Shvets, Joy-Lud was controlled by the KGB and Kislin worked as a so-called “spotter agent” who identified Trump, a young businessman on the rise, as a potential asset. Kislin denies that he had a relationship with the KGB.

Then, in 1987, Trump and Ivana visited Moscow and St Petersburg for the first time. Shvets said he was fed KGB talking points and flattered by KGB operatives who floated the idea that he should go into politics.

The ex-major recalled: “For the KGB, it was a charm offensive. They had collected a lot of information on his personality so they knew who he was personally. The feeling was that he was extremely vulnerable intellectually, and psychologically, and he was prone to flattery.

“This is what they exploited. They played the game as if they were immensely impressed by his personality and believed this is the guy who should be the president of the United States one day: it is people like him who could change the world. They fed him these so-called active measures soundbites and it happened. So it was a big achievement for the KGB active measures at the time.”

future authoritarian leader

if the russians were working him it should be assumed they figured out how to use limbaugh when he endedd up controlling messaging on 1500 radio stations. radio is a classic propaganda tool and it would be poetic for the ex soviet spy putin to figure out how to use/feed limbaugh.

then limmbaugh and trump end up as neighbors, trump gets sam nunberg to listen "to 1000s of hours of talk radio in 2014", and trump rides limbaugh into the WH on a platform that built on 30 years of talk radio repetition

dem investigators need to ask sam nunberg all sorts of questions as well as figure out if limbaugh has some swiss bank accts

exposing russian use of talk radio will do a lot to end trumpism and dittoheads in the GOP

To me, I often wonder if what Trump and the GQP do is more often than not "hiding in plain sight". Radio would be a perfect tool as you have stated. To understand the control operation, you have to recognize the logic and language used, untwist the psychology (often as we know - projection, hypocrisy), and draw in seemingly unrelated elements that are happening on other parties on another plane, and construct the results. It's like someone is creating reality from a hard goal to obfuscate and confuse the public. Democrats just go along with all this too often.

Helsinki said it all. Trump's obsequious behavior towards Putin, his insistence of a private meeting where even the interpreter was given orders never to reveal what was said, and that denial of Putin's election interference which Trump tried (and failed) to reverse. All the optics pointed to a servile dog being yanked by his Master.

The whole thing was utterly disgusting. He humiliated himself and the country.

Donald Trump deserves to die in prison!

Sadly, too few listened or believed her. But as has often been true, she was spot on.

There is no other Donald Trump. What you see is what you get.

She recognized the cut of the man! Unfit from Day 1.

just how patiently and carefully the KGB and then the FSB cultivated Trump over the years. He was most likely one of MANY assets cultivated by the Soviets and then the Russians, but he was definitely one of their biggest successes.

Trump was gullible and had an insatiable need for praise, recognition and..... MONEY to bail out his many failing businesses. The Russians were always there to stroke his ego and line his pockets through their money-laundering operations.

I don't think Trump realized just how compromised he was until it was revealed that Russia had interfered in the 2016 elections and by then he knew he had to keep Putin happy or risk ruination. I don't think he thought through the risks associated with his entanglements with Russia when he declared his candidacy because Donald is not a long-term thinker. He is a reactionary who has been told and been led to believe all his life that he can get away with anything.

A side story in American Kompromat involves the ties between Opus Dei and the Federalist Society, as well as their involvement in the case of FBI agent turned Russian spy, Robert Hanssen. Unger theorizes that Opus Dei has always been supportive of authoritarian leaders who they can use to push for enactment of their religious goals.
