Has anyone heard how they are contributing to the relief of their fellow Texans?

And, they might throw a small tip to the little people who bring them food, water, propane, beer, wine, generators, and bags of FEMA money.

(1,849 posts)Welcoming family and friends to their homes, making calls and donations, while others left town.
My cousin lives in Dallas, as do her 3 married children and their families.
Her son and his family went to stay with a good friend who lives in one of those mansions, along with his mother in law who had arrived from Florida just as the storm hit, her first visit in over a year! They stayed for a few days, until their power was back on.
My cousin and her husband could have gone too, but due to covid concerns they opted to stay at home, no generator but she does have a gas stove so she could cook and have warm beverages. She also heated soup and water for several neighbors. She lives in a mini-mansion neighborhood, a large home, a stones throw from the next large home. She said the neighbors were so appreciative of her providing warm soup and bread. A simple act of kindness.

(21,745 posts)There is a fundamental difference in philosophy between the "Old Money" of the East and the "New Money" of the West.
The Texas billionaires consider themselves "self made" men, standing above all others, and really live by pre-chivalry philosophy. they believe might makes right, that the poor are weak, women are chattel, men are labor to be exploited.

The Democratic Party had better work on their group messaging and ALWAYS point out that deregulation is exactly what made the disaster in Texas possible in the first place. Do not wait until after all the investigations to determine what went wrong when the obvious already blew up in their faces, because the Republicans will muddy it down and drown that out with a bunch of bullshit excuses. The whole country should be taking notice and looking into all past disasters with how 'deregulation' and Republican policies have been so destructive to the United States in every part of American lives.
I did see a Democratic politician (Texas State Senator I think) the other night who kept repeating how Republicans caused the Texas disaster with their deregulation policies and Republican oversight. The Democratic Party leaders should take notice of her messaging and have her spread it throughout the Democratic Party all across the country, because that is exactly how to keep beating Republicans from local to national level.

While millions in Texas are without power due to a deadly winter storm that has brought record low temperatures to the state, the chief financial officer at Jerry Jones' natural gas company can only think about money.
Roland Burns, CFO at Comstock Resources Inc., reportedly bragged that the week has been "like hitting the jackpot," according to the Dallas Morning News.
This week is like hitting the jackpot with some of these incredible prices, Burns said. Frankly, we were able to sell at super premium prices for a material amount of production.
The storms caused gas production to drop to a four-year low, causing a surge in natural gas prices. Comstock was able to sell gas from its Haynesville Shale wells Thursday, taking advantage of the shortage.
Jones initially made his money in oil investments in the 1970s, allowing him to buy the Dallas Cowboys in 1989. Jones invested heavily in Comstock in 2018, becoming the company's controlling shareholder.
