(25,390 posts)Giving the GOP what it wants is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.

(1,910 posts)while Cruz's family are currently on a beach in Cancun. How working class folks keep voting for these scum bags is beyond me.

(833 posts)It's not the media that only should be making this case; it's also the democrats. "Here, Mr. repug, I'll see your brand of unity and raise you my selfless aid for repug Texas voters, my fellow American citizens, my fellow human beings." It would be unseemly for AOC to make that argument, but other, high profile, dems sure should do it. Then sit quietly waiting for repugs to figure out a riposte and blast them with the truth, again. Do it on TV, thus bringing the media into it.
Nothing dems can say will shame these assholes; that doesn't mean they shouldn't say it. This isn't the time for placating repugs; it's the time for repudiating them. It's the time for showing them for what they are.

(833 posts)that good news doesn't sell on TV. Repugs grouse about our social programs costing money when they're perfectly happy giving monstrous tax breaks to the super rich. They really have no interest in ordinary people, who they are so good at gulling into voting against their own interests. Maybe we should stoop to a little gulling of our own? No, I don't believe that. I believe we should just get better at publicizing the truth--aggressively or subtly, loudly or not, but with fervor. Stop falling into the endless traps of countering repug propaganda and state our own case.

(2,379 posts)I agree 100%.
If we could make positive ads about Dems as good as the Lincoln Projects negative ads about Repubs..........
Or ANY good ads...
Beto's and AOC's vs Cruz's responses to the weather in Texas is a perfect example...

(295 posts)Judge them by their actions.
Texas sees who's helping them and who's not. Restoring Empathy and Hope to Democracy (see Article XIV) is our superpower.

(6,576 posts)I see so many folks make comments like "we'll never change Republicans' minds" but that way of thinking misses the point. Most elections are now decided by independents, people without a strong party affiliation, & if we want to win elections we MUST get our message to them.

(1,613 posts)it's a little easier for AOC and Beto to do acts of unity. Sure it's wonderful to help people, but can't hurt rubbing the 'R's face in their colossal failure as well

(30,717 posts)I don't see Beto and AOC as being much alike, apart from the 'D' after their name.
Of course there are a lot of similarities, starting with the fact that they both care and did the right thing.
I have had my differences with some of the local Democrats where I live. It is time for me to look past that.
I like what these two are doing and will contribute.

(6,791 posts)It's obvious you are a Democrat. Only a Democrat could make that mental jump. I applaud you and will also try to do better.

(30,717 posts)that AOC is not one of my favorites. I have to work with local and state Democrats and GOTV. I talk to people. AOC is polarizing in my neck of the woods.
Even so, I can only praise the help she is giving Texas.

(11,559 posts)Things are getting done to help people, and it's coming at the cost of ZERO input by them personally, and next to nothing by the state govt. So.....the people are getting at least a fraction of what they need, and the GOP, worst case scenario, gets to go "See? Told ya govt. was useless."

(5,332 posts)one kind deed at a time.
May there be a time in America where kind hearts and deeds are seen as more important than (R) or (D) behind a politician's name.
AOC (D): Texans need help! What can I do?
Cruz (R): Cold here! Let's fly south!
