(25,470 posts)1. I don't think he had much of a chance anyway.
Everybody hates him, even the people who vote for him. He wins because he's an R and little else.

(7,596 posts)3. He got runner-up in 2016.
And I dont think the potential field they got for 2024 looks all that strong, frankly.
Though between inciting an attempted coup and ditching his state during a crisis, he may have finally destroyed himself.

(89,248 posts)5. He also beat Trump in Texas unlike Rubio in Florida
TwilightZone
(25,470 posts)8. Only because 17 other candidates split the vote.
Won't happen again in 2024. The GOP will force extraneous candidates out of the race much earlier next time. They'll rally behind an establishment Republican (similar to what Dems did with Biden) and that's highly unlikely to be Cruz.

(102,236 posts)2. I'd think so.. of course, he was hated before and he is a Trumper R, after all.
Still, I don't think politicos, even R's survive bipartisan ridicule.

(23,539 posts)4. he could lose his senate primary to someone just as bad

(9,244 posts)6. 'to someone just as bad'
In this case, that's a big ask. Rafa is bottom of the barrel.
