The last time the Republicans had a one-term President defeated was 1992. George H. W. Bush lost to Bill Clinton. In 1996, the party turned to a mainstream Senator as its nominee. That was Bob Dole who lost to Bill Clinton.

It’s difficult for me to wrap my head around what constitutes a “mainstream” Senator in the current QGOP. Maybe Romney will run again?

These days, basically nobody.

Maybe they will double-down on the crazy. I think that they will get walloped either way.
