Tomorrow I will be going to my baptismal church, the Cathedral of Saint John The Divine, to confess my sins, and they are many.
My Church is one of the most, if not the most, liberal.
I'd cite, but the HRC link has it all.

that's as good a place as any. Do they still call it St. John's the Unfinished? Beautiful place.

(4,766 posts)The nave proper is open, but doesn't have much in the way of places to sit, and no prayer books. You need to wander around to the chapel opposite the baptismal font for the "church". Still, it's lovely.

(1,856 posts)As a native New Yorker I am familiar with that church, the beautiful architecture and caring community. How wonderful that you get to return in person.
I am proudly Jewish and it's been almost a year since I've attended an in person service, or since they've held one. I'm scheduled to attend and participate in a small live service in early March. I am really looking forward to it, and share your joy at being able to return to your house of worship.
Peace be with you! Shalom!

(1,002 posts)We are indeed a very liberal bunch. My little Church (St Barnabas) here in Colorado's Lost Corners region is still under shutdown except for our soup kitchen/food program. I envy you that beautiful House of Worship which is pictured in your link and I also envy you your ability to actually visit your Church and speak with a Priest. It has been almost a year since I was able to attend a service at St. Barnabas in person or just come sit in one of the pews at other times for prayer and meditation. Of course, God is everywhere, but I miss being able to attend services terribly, especially now that we are in the season of Lent.
God bless from one Episcopalian to another.

(15,025 posts)Oh, how I love that Church. I live in NYC. (I'm an Ex- Catholic from late teens onward still very Spiritual)
Been there just to walk around inside for beautiful architecture, and special new art pieces, or little exhibits.
Have gone to a few Easter, and Christmas services- for the decorations, the choirs, the organ, and spiritual essence being among worshippers. Also one, or two New Year's Eve concerts.
A performance by the Harmonic Choir (overtone singing) may have been my first visit back in the '80's.
My longest tradition was attending the St Francis Blessing of The Animals Celebration and Mass by the Paul Winter Consort, multiple choirs, solo singers, dancers, and The Animals towards the end many times, but not in the last 8 years or so.
Glorious 💖 memories!!!!!
Yes, and they're still doing the stone work to complete it.
