How Security at the Capitol Fell Apart

February 22, 2021 at 7:43 am EST By Taegan Goddard

“At 1:09 p.m. on Jan. 6, minutes after protesters had burst through the barricades around the U.S. Capitol and began using the steel debris to assault the officers standing guard, the chief of the Capitol Police made a desperate call for backup. It took nearly two hours for officials to approve the deployment of the National Guard,” the New York Times reports.

“New details about what transpired over those 115 minutes on that dark, violent day — revealed in interviews and documents — tell a story of how chaotic decision-making among political and military leaders burned precious time as the rioting at the Capitol spiraled out of control.”

“Communication breakdowns, inaction and confusion over who had authority to call for the National Guard delayed a deployment of hundreds of troops who might have helped quell the violence that raged for hours.”

It was a plan for security failure.

quickly enough and of course, we all know how the right "cared" about the 4 victims of Benghazi. Every article about January 6th seems cleansed of blame for trump's inaction. We'll never reach equilibrium as a country until we silence them or elect to scream as loudly. I'm as tired of hearing about trump as the next guy, but he's to blame for the slow response and where does it say that?

were prepared. The domestic terrorist rubes should never have been allowed up the steps to the Capitol. Of course, if the Capitol breach had been thwarted, the incident would have been a minor issue, now forgotten.

7. The FBI never sent out a threat assessment on the 1/6 protest even though they sent out warnings..

....But they also said a specific threat assessment from the FBI and DHS in the weeks before might well have persuaded Capitol Police and others to beef up security......

Eddy said if there wasn't an intelligence bulletin ahead of the pro-Trump rally, that was a problem. "If the reality is that ... neither FBI nor DHS did a threat assessment for Jan. 6, that was blinking red. If that's indeed the fact, then that's absolutely a failure of intelligence ... and weird," he said.

Looks like members of the Trump admin held NG back as back up that was not allowed DURING attack.

Don't think the onus belongs on the capital police, looks like 6 of them did some shitty things during the attack but they were left blind to a degree by FBI and DHS that would get them moving to beef up secuirit.

The investigation into this should be a deep and wide
