(4,999 posts)Unless he actually goes to jail, absolutely he'll run. On our side of the aisle, it was horrible. In the WH, on the links, he was getting his ego fed more than ever before. Why would he turn away from that?

Scary thing is. He might win.

(15,344 posts)Unless Biden really screws up. Bidens approval has been at 62%. Trump barely reached 50% on a few occasions. His approval now is about 30% according to recent polls. He cant overcome that much of a disadvantage unless something goes catastrophically wrong under Biden.

(2,779 posts)Yes -- if he is out of prison
I am wondering if my wife is correct that no one has the backbone to actually indict and incarcerate this orange pus spot. I was certain that the "Individual 1" filing from the Mueller probe would be set to an automatic unsealing within 72 hours of his leaving office. Here we are over a month later and nothing.
No indictment on tax or security charges in NY.
No election tampering grand jury in Georgia.
My vote is, yes, unless he is in prison.
He'll certainly run while indicted. He could be on trial for sedition during the election and QOP would still vote for him.

(17,757 posts)However, if he surprises me, who do you think would run against him in the primaries with a majority of the Party still supporting Trump? The Republicans have thrown away the Party of the past and has become the Trumpist Party. If Trump can stay physically viable, the nomination will be his to lose again.
The flip side of that is Biden is also old (although apparently in far better shape than Trump) if he is unable or unwilling to run again, who will our party run against a possible Trump campaign. Assuming for a moment that we have to run against Trump, without Biden, who do we have waiting in the wings that could beat the Fascist Past President?
Trump, and Biden, are at that tender age when a person can just up and die on you in a heart beat. (pardon the pun) You have to plan for scenarios that could happen, not what you think will happen.

if he is still alive (how can he survive that diet and no exercise?) he will be nominated by the repubs and will probably win the election. his next vp will be a loyalist, probably a family member (his daughter in law will be senator and ivanka probably governor by then.)

(15,344 posts)If he stands trial in DC, only 5% voted for him. In my anecdotal experience, even those 5% arent necessarily MAGA cultists. Same with Manhattan where only 12% voted for him. He could be convicted easily in either of those jurisdictions and possibly many others.

(22,993 posts)He'll drag it out as long as he can, and grift as much off it as he can, until he formally is required to state his actual intent to qualify for primaries. He can't lose by threatening to run, but he can lose if he does, and Trump HATES to lose.

(21,357 posts)He still has control over the Republican party and next week at CPAC you'll see him assert that control.
The GOP had their chance to dump him, they didn't, they're stuck with him.

(8,078 posts)Deep pocket fascists made a shit load of money under Hitler, its all about the money & the banksters, capitalist fascists own the GOP, the GOP will support their man, its as simple as that.

(15,344 posts)She says he wont run because his ego couldnt take another loss. Sounds right to me.

(105,731 posts)for his own benefit, exact as much vengeance against those he believes did not support him in the meantime, thereby causing as much damage to his party and others as possible, but he will run out of time to actually run. By that, I mean either the civil and criminal investigations will come to a head, he will be financially too devastated to do anything but try to salvage his ill-gotten gains day in and day out, and/or what remains of the more sane half of the Republican party will force him to break off into a splinter party. Ultimately all that will cause him to eventually drop out, but too late for anyone thinking of claiming his hold on the party. Because he's going to soak up the attention as long as humanly possible.

IIRC, he filed for the 2020 race right after his inauguration.

(16,616 posts)I don't think he'll run because he will never again put himself in a position where he even might lose, because clearly this election loss was the worst, most humiliating experience of his life.
He will bluff and bluster, and scare a lot of people, but in the end he'll find some excuse not to run, or a health crisis (real or manufactured) will intervene.

(5,585 posts)Such people believe they can't lose, and if they do it is an anomaly--they think somehow cheating was involved--look where that thought led him. Just look at Trump's businesses-- failure after failure, yet always creating many more. Fear of failure is not operational with him. Why do you think he frequently says "What can go wrong?" He is a very unrealistic optimistic person and an extremely high tolerance of potential humiliation.

(302 posts)We all need to resist temptation to continue our involvement in an abusive relationship, end our addiction to highly-charged drama and stop empowering the abuser with attention.
It's not easy to do, but we are part of the problem if we don't move on.
