Conservative Catholics are now claiming that Joe Biden is "too obsessed" with LGBTQ people

Biden is supposedly pushing the "twisted" LGBTQ agenda, and has "total disinterest" in supporting religious communities. Some have even suggested denying him communion.

So far, some of the biggest critics of Joe Biden’s administration turn out to be Catholics who are not happy with the new President’s commitment to LGBTQ rights. As the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops meets this week, Catholic Church leaders are looking to reduce the friction between the group and only the second Catholic President in American history.

Others, however, are not trying to mend such a relationship. In press releases this week, the Catholic League complained that the new President has an “obsession” with LGBTQ people and prefers them to Christian people.

Although their board member L. Brent Bozell’s son was arrested as one of the people who stormed the U.S. Capitol during the January 6 riots, they’re more concerned with Biden’s supposed engagement “in ideological imperialism, shoving our twisted ideas of sexuality” on religious groups and other countries.

“President Biden used his first day in office to discuss human rights. However, he did not speak to this issue in a broad manner; rather, he limited his discussion to the rights of homosexuals and transgender persons. This tells us a great deal about his priorities,” the statement from CEO Bill Donohue on behalf of the 11,000-member conservative non-profit read.

“In contrast to Biden’s obsession with the rights of sexual minorities is his total disinterest in the rights of Christians,” they wrote. “Why are the rights of LGBT people given preferential treatment over Christians and other people of faith? Catholics, evangelicals, Mormons, Muslims and observant Jews would love to know.”

The Pope just dropped one of the conservatives out of the house of cardinals. I am surprised he has not done more housecleaning but the papacy has a much longer view than a four year term so I guess they have time. And for most of us, they are, thankfully, just archaic and meaningless. Kind of like debating baseball statistics.

I saw the title and scanned the first few paragraphs. Did I see "Catholic League" and "Bill Donahue"? Yes, yes I did.

No need to read the rest of the article. He's the Catholic version of Falwell. Fortunately, most Catholics are not on that asshole's wavelength. Only 34% of Catholics oppose gay marriage. Donahue is on my pay no mind list.

about 6 or 7 that we Methodists, like all non-Catholics, were doomed to burn in hell forever unless we wised up and converted to the "true faith". I had never seen my mother so outraged as she was when I tearfully related what I had just been told.

I was not present to hear what she said to our "good Catholic" neighbors, but I was not welcome at their house after she paid them a visit.

Just one more reason why I still love that woman.

11. I was brought up Catholic

My experience in the Latin American communities of Southern California was so different from what these “Christians” believe. We were focused on grace and peace. All my life, even in Catholic school, we learned about loving our neighbor as ourself being only next to loving god as the most important thing. We had a mandatory class called, “Social Moral Guidance”, where we did learn about being “chaste” but the emphasis was on loving others and not judging.

Then in the 80’s evangelicals started stealing away Catholic youth with their rock bands and youth clubs and mega churchy things and the Catholic Churches started competing to try and prevent the youth from leaving. They became just like the evangelicals. I can’t stand going to Mass in so cal now. It sounds like a Calvary chapel.

...out were Catholics will see and hear it. I would think especially in Spanish-language media. It usually flys under the radar because Catholics naturally assume talk of "Cristian values" includes them, but there are plenty of evangelicals for whom "Christian" only means their own denomination or Protestantism, or related denominations if they're feeling generous.

It's a place where we can drive a wedge to break up that set of Republican voters.

The reason my wife left the Catholic church (after over at least 500 years of her family being in it) is because they valued doctrine over reality. Priests in her town were sexually molesting young children and not taking action until the legalities got too hot, and the offending priests were transferred (never disciplined).

While their charities have done good works, they have no right to play a role in deciding laws or tax structure in the USA, and discrimination against--or giving privileges to--any one group due to their "religion" being offended should be grounds for legal restraint (goes for any and all religions, not just Catholics). The framers wanted a secular state. We are their heirs. We have a right to that legacy.
