Mike Lindell made his bed with Trump's bogus conspiracies. Now, he gets to lie in it.

By Aaron Blake

On Jan. 21, President Biden had just been inaugurated. That, combined with the Jan. 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol and litigation threats, caused many of those who promoted baseless theories about voting-machine fraud to back down. But MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell wasn’t going anywhere.

When Lindell appeared on former Donald Trump adviser Stephen K. Bannon’s podcast that day, Bannon challenged him. He noted that fellow purveyors of the claims about Dominion Voting Systems machines had suddenly fallen silent in the face of lawsuits. Lindell, though, said he welcomed a lawsuit, as he had in previous days. What better way to prove his theory, he reasoned, than through the discovery process?

Lindell has now gotten his wish. He might soon wish he had never made it.

Dominion’s new lawsuit against Lindell is not the first to be filed against those who promoted such baseless and debunked theories. But relative to those previously sued by Dominion and another company, Smartmatic, he seems to have waltzed into especially dicey legal territory. Legal experts clearly saw legal liability, but Lindell made a very different calculation, running headlong into the breach.

He's going to lose his company through all this. Maybe David Hogg can pick it up for a bargain when it gets auctioned off though.

Thirty-eight percent of Tucker Carlson's advertising came from MyPillow in 2020, data firm estimates
by Haley Victory Smith, Breaking News Reporter | | July 07, 2020 02:14 PM

Tucker Carlson Tonight is now the highest-rated show in cable news, averaging 4.3 million nightly viewers. Despite that, a plethora of companies have decided against advertising on Carlson's show due to public pressure over several controversial comments made by the host.

MyPillow, which is owned by ardent Trump supporter Mike Lindell, has decided to take the opposite approach, investing heavily in commercial buys on the show.

CNN's Brian Stelter reported Monday that according to iSpot.tv, a firm that collects data on television advertising, MyPillow is advertising on Carlson's show "nearly 10 times more than the next-largest brand by spend." MyPillow also makes up about 15% of the advertising revenue for Sean Hannity's show, according to the same report.

"MyPillow is literally propping up Tucker's show," Stelter said.

My wife pointed out the were still selling My Pillows. I said, I don't think they're actually selling them, if you know what I mean. They've probably been sitting unsold for a long time. Maybe Lindell can cut a deal with one of those private prison firms to sell them pillows in bulk, although there's probably some 8th amendment problems with forcing prisoners to sleep on those things.
