Local man charged in Capitol insurrection ordered to remain in jail without bail

https://www.tampabay.com/news/nation-world/2021/02/22/local-men-charged-in-capitol-insurrection-ordered-to-remain-in-jail-without-bail/

TAMPA — Graydon Young, an Army and Navy reserve veteran from Sarasota County, stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 with thousands of others because he was working toward a “righteous cause,” his attorney said in federal court Monday.

Young, a brother, husband and a small business owner, only later realized “he had been duped by an organization he didn’t fully understand,” defense attorney Robert Foley argued in a federal probable cause hearing in Tampa. Young was arrested Feb. 15 and is among nine people accused as co-conspirators as members of the far-right, anti-government militia group the Oath Keepers. All nine face charges for conspiring to obstruct the U.S. Congress’ certification of the 2020 presidential election results by storming the Capitol building on Jan. 6.

Young’s actions that day were simply “inconceivable,” federal Magistrate Judge Thomas Wilson ruled. Young, 54, of Englewood, will be held in Pinellas County jail without bail until he can be tried on charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States, depredation against federal government property and unlawful entry, disorderly or violent conduct and destruction of records in a federal investigation, Wilson said.

According to the court documents, Young and his sister are alleged to have donned paramilitary gear and joined a “military-style stack” formation that marched up the center steps of the east side of the Capitol, breached the door at the top and then stormed inside. Young had planned for that moment since he joined the group in December, court records said, and even arranged for himself and three others to train with a “Florida company that conducts training on firearms and combat,” leading up to the insurrection.

Interesting article about recruiting this brother and sister.

Maybe the fact he had been in the military in the past had an effect on him. The military breaks you down, then builds you back to take orders from superiors. Maybe he never got out of that mindset. It is still no excuse for what he did. I think all those who participated in the attack on the capital should be sitting in jail and not released, unfortunately many have gotten out on bail-I don’t understand that.

is telling him that the democrats are taking over the capital away from his president. And his president tells a citizen to go to the capital and take it back, what should a citizen do. I can see it in a uninformed person.

True citizens of British Colonial America would have never disobeyed the local government and followed some crazy rebels.

That's why he wore paramilitary gear. He was duped.

That's why he went for tactical training. He was duped.

That's why he was an active member of the "military-style stack" that breached the Capitol. He was duped.

Good try, attorney Foley. Your client is a violent seditionist and traitor to the U.S. Constitution. He has to pay for his crimes.

I think over half of those indicted are using a defense that amounts to "It was his fault & I was stupid enough to believe him."
The rest seem to be using "I thought it was a righteous cause because I'm stupid" defense.
Either way it seems the defense is stupidity.

The corporate war now being waged against democracy finds its army in the trumpcult.
They'll use anyone who contributes to their control over the people's control of government, and not just Republican leaders or evangelical leaders.

As long as they can feed promises to the 10.13 unemployed and the 150,000,000 already at poverty level, throught these leaders, they can keep control of "conservative" politicians.

I'm sure members of ISIS think they were duped too after they commit acts of terror and then are jailed, I'm sure they have all kinds of sob stories too.

Oath Keepers is a terrorist organization, every single member of them needs to be arrested whether they were at the Capitol or not. The same way we would arrest an Al Qaeda cell in the US.

but that is not my point here. Why the 'militia group' misnomer as the designation of this organization. Shouldn't they be always labelled a terrorist group of seditionists and traitors?
