General Discussion

1. Has Sen Manchin been truthful about the coal industry not coming back? Has he talked about it or avoided it or made statements that sounded like it could, would, should?
2. How has supporting guns and being anti choice put food on your table? Has it gotten you a skilled, well paying job?
3. Did you know that West Virginia is in the top five of states taking the most Federal Assistance?
4. Did you know that Sen Manchin is not sure a $15.00 minimum wage is such a good thing?
5. Did you know the Blue states pay more in Federal taxes then they receive back. Did you know the Federal money flowing into your state comes mostly from tax payers who are Democrats?

(2,636 posts)WV does have some Latino presence, but it is miniscule.
I have family in Parkersburg. All over the state, actually. Very, very few Black people. My father's golf course used to hose the Brothers of the Links golf tournament. My step mum had to fill out a foursome, and she was not just the only white player, but the only woman, too.
In the 20 years I've been visiting P'burg, I've seen the quality and quantity of Mexican restaurants increase, which is a good thing. However, WV is not a growing economy. There is very little Latino community to speak of.
He's free to be xenophobic and misogynistic with a Latina because it gains him support amongst the 95% white population who, frankly, fear outsiders, and it costs him nothing. Racism is a feature there, not a bug.
You'd think good paying union jobs would matter. Coal mining used to be union, until the out of state owners figured out how to break those unions, too.

(9,405 posts)In my lifetime one Democrat running for President has received 50 percent of the vote. I think Clinton got 50 on the nose. Before that I think it was Kennedy or Johnson that cracked 50. I know Kennedy won the Primary but not sure on the general, before my time.
Going directly to the voters of West Virginia is like going to a bullies parents, being told to fuck off and then acting shocked.
Take the vote when we can get it, hope he does not change parties, pick up a few extra seats in 22 and move on from there.

(19,382 posts)Thats what will happen if we kick him out of the party. 51 GOP to 49 Democratic Senators. We do better with the majority even with his no votes.
Yeehah
(6,580 posts)so he's much better than a republican. I'm not sure why you would make such a spurious statement.

(997 posts)Those are the choices. If Manchin goes down in West Virginia, it's not going to be a Mitt Romney type Republican. It will be to a Trumpist.

(71,552 posts)a must for Manchin...any hint of being a 'gun grabber' and he is out. I think he comes around on the minimum wage. And 3 and 4 are meaningless in WVA. Without Joe Manchin, we don't have a majority. Also, consider Sinema is also pretty much the same.
