I've heard about the awful experiences with the Moderna second doses so I want to be prepared for my second Pfizer shot. But so far I've only heard from the Moderna vaccine folks.

(4,616 posts)Even though I am at very high risk for serious, deadly consequences if I get COVID, and I qualify as Phase 1B tier 2, not a peep out of any provider even though Im registered all over the place.
I give up, I resign myself to my fate.

(9,006 posts)I was registered with my county and city but had heard nothing, so I pursued CVS and got right in.
BTW, my first Moderna shot, only slight injection site soreness. I too see little but bad experiences with the 2nd Moderna shot. Pfft!

I know that's bs, but it's my own bs....

(684 posts)I got Pfizer and had zero side affects. Barely a sore arm for a few hours. Good luck.

(1,408 posts)The first one, in the right arm, could only tell if I lightly pressed on the spot.
Second shot also in right arm. It didn't hurt at all but, and I kid you not, the adjacent spot on my left arm had about the same amount of pain as the first shot did.
I'm in a nursing home so I showed the nurse. She looked at both arms and my right had a tint dot while the left arm showed nothing.
They went over the paperwork and ask the nurses that gave us the shots and they verified it.
I was kind of insulted that they acted I didn't know my right from my left.
Other than that, no effects at all.
I haven't heard of too many bad reactions out of 90+ residents that got the Pfizer.
Good luck. May you no pain in either
arm.

(82,849 posts)She feels like heck today, but in conversation with her daughter the nurse and another friend who's also a nurse, it's to be expected. She's taken some ibuprofen and will follow that up with Tylenol after a couple of hours, and that's helped a little. She has set aside today to rest and recuperate.
My understanding is that the first shot introduces your immune system to the way the virus infects the body and the second shot is supposed to stimulate the response you want your immune system to have if the actual virus tries to infect you. So the second shot should lay a person low, because it simulates the full-scale "Get that virus!" response you want your body to have. After a day or two, your body should be moving back to normal.

BIL has had no other reaction and he's the one with all the medical problems.
Sis says the outside of both ears are itching non-stop but she doesn't know if it's the vaccine or a new shampoo.
She is using peroxide and an anti-biotic cream.

(635 posts)I'm old and have chronic health conditions. The distribution system is definitely not working out here in rural Oregon. I'm still waiting for an appointment; finally got an e-mail today telling me it will probably
be several weeks before I might be given an appointment.
In the meantime...good luck. I'm beyond irritated.

(9,291 posts)Sore arm, feel ok.
My hubbys pharmacist asked how I was, he mentioned something that I never thought of before. If I dont get any side effects, I probably did have COVID a few months back and my microbiology is aware of the virus now. Now, I dont know if I actually did have Covid, no testing then, but Im going on critical day 2 and 3, no fever or anything that would slow me down.
Youll feel happy when its all over. Its so nice you dont have to worry anymore.

(12,132 posts)I had already put in for PTO on Thursday just so I wouldn't have to battle any ill effects at work.
Turns out I got a free off-work day lol. I had a bit of a headache Wednesday night and my arm was a little bit sore but no more than the first shot which was also pretty mild. I could easily have worked but my boss said I have plenty PTO saved up and needed to burn some anyway so don't worry. I didn't worry, I drank beer and made hamburgers and watched TV.
Been fine ever since except now I have to get more beer.

(42,302 posts)About 24 hours in, I became very fatigued, achy and had that general "out-of-body" fuzzy feeling. Slept most of that day, felt better the next day. I had the 2nd shot on a Sunday afternoon. By Tuesday night, I was back to normal.

(166 posts)Yea, I would be the one to get slammed by the after effects. Second Pfizer shot Wednesday Feb 17th. Didn't even feel the shot, OK good start. A couple hours after, arm hurt like hell. That night the chills and slight headache kicked in so I took some Tylenol, still felt like shit.Next day, still intermittent chills and same slight headache.Friday, same shit, chills and headache and did not want to eat. Saturday and Sunday same shit, chills and slight headache, but this time injection site(same arm for both shots) was itching like mad, was warm and red, put some itch cream on and rubbed it alot. Yesterday same crap but to a lesser degree, hallelujah ! Today has been a joy! No symptoms at all. Finally have energy and am happy as a clam! I hope I didn't scare you CTyankee. I have always had lots of allergies so I sort of expected it, but at least I have my 2 shots complete and am so grateful ! Best Wishes to you!

(82,849 posts)She's feeling very much back to normal. She napped for almost three hours yesterday afternoon, and slept eight hours through the night last night. Still a little soreness at the injection site, but not enough to whine about (your mileage may vary). Reports from her co-worker who had her second shot Monday are similar.
Someday I'll be special enough to be on the list for a shot.
