Weird, Prince Harry doesn't technically have a last name - it's complicated.

You know Prince Harry? Grandson to Queen Elizabeth, husband to Meghan Markle and father of Archie, person who quit the royal family? Well, a couple fun facts about his name: first of all, it's not Harry. It's Henry!

And while we're at it, his full name is Henry Charles Albert David, which begs the question, does Harry just not have a last name? Well, it's complicated due to a bunch of various rules and proclamations, so let's get into it.

No, Harry Doesn't Technically Have a Last Name
Due to being royal, Harry doesn't have a last name like us mere mortals. In fact, the official name listed on his son Archie's birth certificate is His Royal Highness Henry Charles Albert David Duke of Sussex.

His father is the Prince of Wales.

Untitled members of the British Royal Family, like Prince Harry’s son Archie, use the surname Mountbatten-Windsor.

It was in recent years that the Queen changed the family surname from Windsor to Mountbatten-Windsor in order to honor her husband’s Mountbatten heritage. Prince Philip was born a Prince of Greece and Denmark. His mother was born in Buckingham Palace. He voluntarily gave up his royal title before his marriage to then Princess Elizabeth. He was then made HRH Duke of Edinburgh upon marriage, and Prince Philip a few years later.

If there was no staff to deal with it, I could see that alone causing him to run back to the royal womb.

It's not like he's lacking for names.

He could take Megan's last name, I suppose.

William went by William Wales. THey're the house of Windsor. Can he not just choose a name? Charleson, or Spencer, maybe?

If Harry really wanted to poke the Royal family in the eye, he could simply go by Mountbatten.

Bjork, Cantinflas, Enya, Eminem, Halston, Pink, Kreskin, Teller, Twiggy, Fabio, Topol, Liberace, Prince, Sade, Sinbad, Rihanna, Adele--and, best of all, Charo. Harry has some high standards to meet. Yes, I know that all these people have last names, but I couldn't resist.

Prince Philip, the consort of Queen Elizabeth II, adopted the surname of Mountbatten from his mother's family in 1947, although he is a member of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg by patrilineal descent

But it is interesting, that they used last names n the military etc.

If Harry is in the US, I wonder what name he used for the Census?
