By Laura Barrón-López and Christopher Cadelago 10 hrs ago
Womens rights activists and allied Democrats are growing increasingly vocal about what they call the unfair targeting of women and people of color nominated by Joe Biden to top posts in his administration.
Their fears had been bubbling for weeks, as Bidens nominees of color came under sharp attack from conservative groups or saw their nominations delayed or opposed in greater numbers. But the worries burst out into open over the weekend as Neera Tandens nomination to lead the Office of Management and Budget neared defeat at the hands of a Democrat.
There's a double standard going on, said Rep. Judy Chu (D-Calif.), head of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus. Her nomination is very significant for us Asian American and Pacific Islanders. I do believe that this double standard has to do with the fact that she would be a pioneer in that position.
On Friday, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) came out in opposition to Tandens nomination, citing her past tweets attacking lawmakers on both sides of the aisle. Two key Senate Republicans followed suit.

or the top of that post he's perched upon might slip into an uncomfortable spot from which it will be difficult to extricate himself.

(9,952 posts)2. Why only Rep and Manchin? Sanders was the first to on record wag his finger and scold Tanden
demanding an apology from her and she accommodated.
I am damn tired of a strong woman being put in her place by some man myself.

(9,952 posts)5. Right. I am like pissed and people are talking about Republicans. Sanders is suppose to be on
women's side, yet does not feel like it. He took it to a personal scold, not professional issue.
