As to why people reported here that Garland called Barr a liar, they were following advice questionably attributed to Mark Twain: "Never let the truth get in the way of a good story."
A quote about disregard for the truth likely being falsely attributed is delicious irony.

The Twitterer invariably adds his/her own twist to a story.
Second hand Twitter 'News' is best checked up on before accepting it as accurate.
