"SNIP......
Senate Democrats are readying to pass President Bidens infrastructure package through the budget reconciliation process, a recognition theyre unlikely to get much Republican support for a potential $2 trillion package, Axios reports.
Sen. Bernie Sanders told Axios on Tuesday hes consulted with the White House about how to prepare for the next round of spending, and hes ready to do it immediately via reconciliation a process he controls as chair of the Senate Budget Committee.

(4,607 posts)They'll cite the very bridges and roads they voted against as evidence they're "getting the job done" for their voters.
These are the same people who told their voters they were "strengthening protections for people with pre-existing conditions" and "protecting Medicare" as they voted to repeal the ACA and destroy Medicare.

HOW TRUMP BLEW HIS CHANCE TO BREAK THE RESISTANCE
Chuck Schumer reportedly confronted Bannon over his plan to drive a wedge through the Democratic Party. Instead, its the G.O.P. thats in disarray.
(Snip)
Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer was among the Democrats worried that the administration would actually follow through with its pledge to make Trumps $1 trillion infrastructure plan its first big initiative, potentially driving a wedge through the party base between the resistance and blue-collar, union voters. I know what youre doing, and Im not going to let it happen, he warned Bannon, according to Greens book.
Of course, as it turns out, Schumer didnt need to worry. For one, Trump decided instead to expend his initial political capital on a deeply divisive effort to ban immigrants from several majority-Muslim countries from entering the U.S., sparking a major protest movement that effectively guaranteed he would not have meaningful Democratic support for the remainder of his presidency. For another, Trump severely miscalculated how difficult it would be to govern, leading him to make a number of political missteps. I deal with people that are very extraordinarily talented people, Trump told Green, per Axios. I deal with Steve Wynn. I deal with Carl Icahn. I deal with killers that blow these [politicians] away. Its not even the same category. Thispoliticsis a category thats like 19 levels lower. You understand what Im saying? Brilliant killers.

The GOP will obstruct anything that helps the people & use bad faith attacks against the Democrats but an infrastructure bill may help with blue collar voters.

(4,607 posts)Blue collar GOP voters truly believe the GOP are fighting to protect their Medicare and Social Security and access to healthcare and are making "good business decisions" to get things done in their communities. I have had Trump voters tell me, to my face, that Trump helped the economy with stimulus checks while Democrats tried to stop him, and now that Democrats are in power they are obstructing Republican attempts to further help the economy.
Democrats, and the left in general, need to accept that most of these people are unreachable. They will credit their GOP representatives with Democratic achievements they explicitly opposed, and violently condemn Democrats for not achieving things those same GOP representatives obstructed.

(118,622 posts)from sales tax. NY and California from white collar income taxes. The states that rely on sales taxes are going to be in trouble as white collar jobs kept going from home during covid while sales tanked.
I add that it really will be the Feds funding infrastructure in those sales tax states. When Stephen Harper did stimulous spending during the financial crisis (canada did not have a subprime meltdown due to adequate banking regulations but was effected by the world wide recession, Harper a conservative knew keynesian spending was the cure as he talked trickle down but didn't want the economy to tank like the republicans did with Obama by demanding austerity). He put a federal government sign up announcing it was the federal government funding the infrastructure at every construction site so he would get the credit. I hope Biden does the same.
