Tiger isn't "lucky to be alive" the rest of us are lucky he didn't kill someone innocent

I am sickened by the lack of responsibility of the news coverage of Tiger Woods.

One look at the pictures of the crime scene and it is obvious that he was going over 100 MPH before he crossed traffic and flipped the car. (Took some classes in forensic science including car wrecks many moons ago)

This asshat was on a public highway driving over 100 mph. He showed no regard for the little people on the road; he wanted to go fast. This is not surprising to me as his complete lack of concern for little people has been ignored his whole career.

Tiger learned at a young age -- it is OK to be a jerk to little people (waiters, bell boys, etc) as long as you were nice to the press. He is the ANTI-STEVE CARLTON. Steve was reportedly nice to all the clubhouse staff, ball boys, waiters, etc (I know some from when he played. They said he was kind to them). But Steve refused to talk to the media so they painted him as a villain. Tiger is always nice to the media. BUT was notorious for how poorly he treated the little people. I know hotel staff, restaurant staff, etc who were berated, stiffed on huge bills with no tip, by Tiger. But he always put on a smile and joked with reporters so he got a free pass.

If this weren't Covid times, how many cars would have been on the road that he might have hit?

Add to that all the REALLY IMPORTANT NEWS from yesterday that got relegated to the second or later segments on local news : the bombshells from the hearings, the Covid bill, etc. and once again the ineptitude of the press just infuriates me. On second thought, it is more pandering than ineptitude -- they want viewers to show advertisers. More calculation than stupidity.
tside the family
I am grateful that no one was hurt by him. I feel no sympathy for him as I am a little person that he would have berated if he had chosen to come to the store down the street from the hotel that the golfers stayed at when the tour was in town when I was working. I know he blasted a co-worker over some perceived problem that was unreasonable for a corner convenience store.

My sister was permanently disabled by a reckless drunk driver -- not sure if he was drunk, on pain meds, or just plain reckless -- I am just grateful that no other family has to deal with the aftermath of Tiger's wreck.

Our media is so celebrity obsessed, they tend to give a ridiculous amount of coverage to movie stars, musicians, and sports figures. If he had died, it would been nonstop 24/7 coverage for at least a week or two.

Meanwhile, there are so many important stories that actually affect real people in the real world.

57. Top end is 147 mph. He probably had the V-6, which does zero to 60 in 5.3 seconds.

This mid-size luxury crossover shares the same all-new underpinnings as the upcoming next-gen G80 sedan and is available with rear- or all-wheel drive. The engine choices start with a 300-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder and escalate to a 375-hp twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6, the latter of which delivered a brisk 5.3-second zero-to-60-mph time at our test track. With the turbo four, the GV80 delivered a slower 6.1-second zero-to-60-mph time, but many drivers won't miss the extra power.

53. Upon reflection...

... I'd like to add this...

I'm not going to delete my Navy Seals post, as if I hadn't written it... but after thinking about it for a bit, I wish I hadn't posted it. Tiger Woods will have the best care money can buy, and even that may not be enough to save him from allowing him to walk normally again. It's very early obviously, but what if he is even unable to do that? Doctors describe his leg injuries as "catastrophic". Both legs. He may never play professional golf again which would be sad for him but not a tragedy in normal human terms.

Tiger's well known indiscretions aside and alleged condescending attitude towards certain of us who don't breathe the rarified air of wealth and/or privilege, he is human and he is now facing a very scary and uncertain future as far as his physical health and abilities are concerned. His mental health has been the subject of past scrutiny, and will be going forward no doubt. However he'll have the best of post-operative care and rehabilitation, he's Tiger Fucking Woods, but perhaps now is not the time to rub sand in his face. The man is after all laid up in hospital with badly broken legs, having just likely escaped death by a whisker.

and that tournament was last week. Auto manufacturers always donate vehicles for the pros to drive during the tournament, then sell them to buyers with the sales pitch, "well this was Tiger's car during the tournament" and some idiot will pay sticker price just for that. The insurance company now owns Tiger's vehicle for last week's tournament.

42. Not sure you are aware that the "Genesis" tournament, that all proceeds go to the Tiger Woods

Foundation.

Here it is what the foundation does:

TGR Foundation was established in 1996 by Tiger Woods and his father, Earl Woods, to create and support community-based programs that improve the health, education, and welfare of all children in America.

The day before he was meeting with sponsors who help on that foundation. A lot of kids have been put through college thanks to that foundation.

After you trash the man you should take the time to learn more about him, then if you don't like what you learn? its up to you what you do with the information.

And I assume you have been out with Tiger and that is why you know he is cheap? Ask his ex-wife how cheap he is, I think she will differ from your opinion.

41. speed causes roll overs

It was most definitely a speeding accident.

Rolling hills in that area, hence the city of Rolling Hills. Hawthorn Blvd is fairly straight, with some giant S turns. @ 7;00 am, he's facing little to no traffic, and it's very easy to get up over 50 mph there.

He didn't hit a tree. The center berm goes appears and disappears through there to allow side street traffic to come and go. He likely missed the turn (phone?) or veered because someone was entering Hawthorn by turning right. Tiger's car hit the median. At speed, the car would veer left. He likely steered left to get off the median after he blew through the development's signage and caused the car to spin, then roll because of high speed.

As far as I know, he was lucid and not under the influence.

I'm not sure how busy that road is at 7:00 in pre-covid days. By 7:30, I'd guess it was full of kids going to school and parents going to work.

He's lucky to have survived. He was belted in and the car's crumple zones did just what they were designed to do. Reports are every single airbag went off. He'll come back, like Hogan before him. But his son will surpass Jack, he won't.

As a man, meh. As a player, he was magnificent.

In this particular case, he was not intoxicated apparently, just a shitty driver in general.

It's unfortunate you think "Well he didn't hurt anyone this time, so what?"

My next guess is you're now insinuating some kind of bigotry.

Well, Eldrick is a Trump rump sniffer, I guess you don't factor that in. As I said last night, Eldrick "shuts up and plays", which gets him a pass from white Republicans other African American athletes don't.

Have a great night.

37. He was on a dangerous road that he was unfamiliar with

The residents who live around there have been interviewed on tv and they've said that road is dangerously steep and the roadbed is banked the wrong way. Any driver who goes into a skid or loses control is shit-out-of-luck on that road.

I can relate to his problem because we have some very hilly roads around Pittsburgh and some of them are engineered incorrectly. We also have snow and ice, but Tiger didn't have to contend with that. He wasn't drinking or using drugs, they already know that.

Anyone who's driving on an unfamiliar road, and not particularly being careful, could have had the same accident. You're not showing much sympathy - it could have been you.

and I distinctly remember driving there and thinking for the first time ever, “This road is banked the wrong way!”

I was also in a scary wreck there when pregnant with my older son when a truck coming toward me hit a patch of ice on the inside of a curve and just kept on coming straight into me. And I hit one once and did a completely out of control 360. Both were on suburban streets and no one was speeding.

Nobody knows what happened in that wreck, and I hate that people are piling on. I wouldn’t be famous for the world.

39. It seems you don't know the FACTS of his accident, how about if you wait to learn the FACTS and then

let you feelings about the man out?

No one, at this time seems to know the FACTS about that accident, so how about if we all wait?

Very sorry about your sister, not sure if the reckless driver responsible for your sister was a celebrity, but it happens on all circles of society, we only get to know about it when a celebrity is involved, there are reckless people everywhere.

Tiger Woods' accident was at 07:00am, so I doubt he was drunk, but we shall find out, he is not known for getting drunk. Could have been under medical drugs? that is a possibility, was he a reckless driver? We will find out, but speculating is not a good thing.

46. There WAS somebody else hurt by him

I saw a couple of articles that mentioned another car that stopped and was then rear-ended.

No mention of the other drivers, any passengers, or whether anybody in those vehicles was seriously injured.

Maybe not. Maybe only the other cars were damaged. Maybe those people were only hurt financially. We’ll probably never know, since they were obviously not important.

47. This is ridiculous.

What gives you the right to make this determination? I had to turn off the coverage because it was so negative about his past. It reeks and so does this post. All I've heard is how dangerous that stretch of road is and how many accidents have happened there. 😡

50. this is garbage. That part of the road is known for wrecks

...why not blame county road administrators for not addressing the dangerousness of the road?

And making like he was under the influence of something without proof is reprehensible and the real reason why people are obsessing over this traffic accident like it was the only one in America yesterday.

I think some folks want to feel superior in clucking their tongues at this celebrity, or use his infamousness to promote some pet cause or concern.

People should get off of his back, and I say this as someone with very little affinity for the man outside of his historic accomplishments in golf.

I have no respect for people who drive without regard for others' safety.

61. I saw him at a tournament, walking down a "gauntlet."

A big line of people on either side of a roped-off pathway. You're probably seen celebrities giving handslaps to fans, even if they are very half-hearted and perfunctory. Not Tiger Woods.

Stone-faced, he walked dead in the middle - even had his shoulders hunched and his arms drawn in - so he didn't have to sully his pristine self by any form of contact with the hoi polloi.

I'd never really been a fan, but when I saw his disdain for the fans, I came to actively root against him.

72. That's Flatly Untrue

Nobody, but nobody, has given more autographs & spent more time greeting fans after rounds than Woods.
And, it's not merely proportional to his greater fan base.

My brother-in-law has video of him interacting with him on more than one occasion. I don't get the hate that this man garners. I've been to the US Open and for the most part the golfers are laser focused during the tournament.

65. JT45242....

What bothers me about your post is that you made a lot of accusations against him that haven't been substantiated regarding the wreck.

Also, you're saying you know all these people who've been treated so horribly by him and I can't personally dispute your claims because I don't know one way or another. I don't know anything about you and have no idea if you heard some things from someone who knew someone who knew someone who knew someone and then it's like that old game about the telephone. After the story is repeated so many times there's no truth in it at all. (just sayin' - )

I definitely agree with you that too much time was spent on the news yesterday regarding this story. Having said that, you kind of put your credibility into question with how you ended your post: "My sister was permanently disabled by a reckless drunk driver -- not sure if he was drunk, on pain meds, or just plain reckless -- I am just grateful that no other family has to deal with the aftermath of Tiger's wreck." You said she was disabled by a reckless drunk drive but then you say you're not sure if he was drunk, on pain meds, etc.

One of my best childhood friends was killed when she was 40 (23 years ago) by a head-on collision with a drunk driver. He wasn't killed and they were obviously able to determine what his blood alcohol level was.

67. I agree. He was speeding and could have killed a bystander or

other travelers.

I'm glad he didn't die. I hope his foundation continues to benefit others. I hope he learns a lesson from this. I don't want to hear any more about him. I just don't care. (And I used to be a fan.)

He will suffer life long debilitating pain. That's an awful price to pay for a lapse in judgement.

I don't wish that on anyone.

76. Okay, y'all

Tiger was speeding on an unfamiliar (maybe) road. He shouldn't have been. The locals say there have been a lot of accidents on that stretch. He wrecked. He had a terrible injury to his leg. He is going to have a long recovery and his future is uncertain. Them's the facts.

I get that some of you don't like him. That's your right. But is it really necessary to devote a whole thread to a Tiger bash? It demeans DU, and it demeans you. There are people much more worthy of bashing who are bent on damaging our government. Tiger is an athlete and not one of them.

79. I know that road, it's very near where I live. I drive it often and it's

dangerous especially for anyone not familiar with it. When you come down the hill you have to ride your breaks because you pick up speed whether you intend to or not!. Tiger is very lucky to have not been killed, others have been!
