(46,822 posts)I was in an out in 20 minutes.
Arm was a bit sore the next day.
That was it.
Second shot in 2 weeks.
A neat side effect: Prior to my first Moderna shot, I was having bad covid and mask dreams every night. Once I got the first shot, I didn't have them any more!

(46,822 posts)I was also wearing double masks for quite awhile.
But once I got the first shot, my anxiety markedly decreased quickly.
It was amazing, I did not expect that at all.

(46,822 posts)I was having bad dreams every night about being in huge crowds of people, no one wearing a mask.
No one concerned. I was trying to find my mask, cannot find it.
Also I was anxious during the day about all of it, the quarantine, getting sick, dying....
After the first Moderna shot, the bad dreams just stopped and I am more relaxed during the day.
Feeling more normal, like pre-Covid.
I now know that it is unlikely I will get Covid, and if I do, it will be mild.
I will not have to go to the hospital, I will not die.
A big weight off my shoulders.
I hope you can relax now........feel the weight lift off your shoulders too!
Let me know how it goes for you...

(7,505 posts)As far as going smoothly and arm sore for a couple of days. I also had anxiety beforehand. Got my second dose on Monday and that evening I had such a sense of relief come over me, totally unexpected. I guess it was just such a release of pent=up anxiety over the past year.

(46,822 posts)Unexpected and sudden reduction of anxiety after the vaccine shots.
I think you are correct, pent up year long anxiety was released.
I had that very same reaction, the immediate sense of relief.
I felt it in the car on the way home.
Then no more covid bad dreams.

(7,505 posts)I haven't really had covid dreams that I can remember but I have been pretty isolated. I think if I was working a job and around more people that might be a possibility.
That Monday after getting the second shot it was like a new lease on life. Don't know if it will last but it was the best I've felt in a long while.

(46,822 posts)Yes that is the feeling I had after the first shot, new lease on life.
Felt really good. For the first time in a year!

(8,954 posts)Four hours later my arm is feeling just a bit sore. Otherwise, no apparent reaction or side effect so far. Since contracting C-19 would likely be a death sentence for me, decision to take the needle was a no-brainer. Strength and honor.

(32,812 posts)and is still not eligible. At least I will feel a bit better knowing there is less of a chance for me to contract it at work and give it to him. Until he can get the vaccine.

(7,835 posts)I had mine two weeks ago...didn't feel the jab but a few hours later my arm was a little sore...more so the next day..but by day 3 nothing...I understand the followup vaccine side effects may be harsher ...aches, temp, etc...better than a ventilator...good luck...

(17,337 posts)I'm getting my first Moderna vaccine this Friday afternoon. I'm sure that first dose will be just fine. I'm not relishing possibly getting a reaction to the second dose, but still miles better than getting Covid!

(24,263 posts)Try to practice relaxing your arm. Slow, deep breathing. Tell the person who is giving the shot you will let them know when you are relaxed and ready. Most pain at the injection site is caused by tensed up muscles. I got my first Moderna shot last month and the experience was exactly the same as if I had no shot at all. Keep in mind most people who have no problem with it don't post about it on the internet. People who do have bad reactions are more likely to post about it. I get that. They want to inform people and discuss the situation.
Have you ever taken a pet to the Vet's office for a shot, And that pet doesn't even seem to feel it?
That's because that pet didn't know they were getting a shot and didn't go through all the anxiety in the days leading up to it like we humans sometimes do.
The odds are greatly in your favor that everything will go fine. Best of luck to you, and remember, just relax and don't worry.

(11,446 posts)I was anxious too, didn't sleep last night, laying on couch today from lack of sleep not shot. Shot was nothing, arm sore thats it. Hubby who is very sensitive to medications got a weird reaction, he has felt high all day since. He said like a combo of pot and codeine.
That sounded weird to me so I messaged a cousin who is a nurse. He feels good and happy and zero arm soreness. Just really weird.
I closed my eyes and made my arm go as limp as I could, that usually helps with other shots for soreness. But its not bad.

(11,446 posts)I was scared of allergic reaction, which is dumb because it was like 3 people out of millions.
So not afraid of next one even if I get sick.

(41,959 posts)They suddenly opened up here and I think all of us nervous second-timers are immediately covered. I'm a tad nervous about getting sick but the timing is good and I'm hoping to be fine and excited by Monday.
Now to get Mr Bear, who is a baby at 64, in the queue!

(7,505 posts)Both times, in and out in 25 minutes. Arm was sore but that was it. As I wrote in another post, I had such a sense of well-being come over me Monday evening. I guess it was a release after a year of worrying about this crap. I know it's not a guarantee but it's as close as you can get now. Good luck. I think a lot of your anxiety will go away after getting the shot. Also, I am a baby when it comes to getting shots but this hurt less than any I've had. Didn't feel it as a matter of fact.
