(7,629 posts)It has to be the USPS board who does it. Biden is working on filling out the board with new appointments which should give them the majority to do so.

When they are confirmed they will have a majority to oust DeJoy. Biden came into office less than 5 weeks ago. For the first time in history, his Cabinet was delayed until after the Inauguration. Normally, they are all in place BEFORE the Inauguration. He also was paused by an impeachment.
This emphasizes just what an incredible GIANT of a President we just elected! We have the potential for F.D.R and J.F.K. all in one; he's on that trajectory! I am deliriously happy with Biden/Harris, and I'm much more radical left than many.

(68,576 posts)"To oversee USPSs activities, Congress established a nine-member board of governors who are nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate. No more than five members of the board may belong to the same political party. Once confirmed to the board, governors can only be removed by the president for cause; that means their jobs are safe unless the president can show that they engaged in malfeasance or extreme neglect of duty. The board of governors, in turn, selects the postmaster general, who is not subject to Senate approval. And once appointed, the postmaster general can only be removed by the board, though it need not justify its decision.
This structure, in short, is why Louis DeJoy remains postmaster general under Biden. The board of governors is dominated by Trump appointees; Senate Republicans refused to confirm President Barack Obamas nominees to the board, leaving vacancies that Trump promptly filled. Today, there are four Republicans and two Democrats on the board, plus three vacancies. One Democrat, Ron Bloom, is serving a holdover term, which means Biden can replace him at any time. Thus, Biden can fill four seats on the board of governorsa move that would flip the board, giving Democrats a 54 majority. The new president can then urge the Democratic members to remove DeJoy, which they can do by a majority vote."

(3,384 posts)Right now, Biden is working on seating 3 new board members this giving us the majority to vote DeJoy out.
P.s. Joy Reid did a great segment on this today. You might want to check it out.

(146,308 posts)He does not serve at the pleasure of the President.
Instead, he was selected by a board. He can only be removed by that board. Each member of that board was appointed for a set term, and also can't be fired by a President.
President Biden has nominated three new members to fill vacancies in that board. When they are seated as board members, the majority of the board will be appointees of a Democratic President. If the majority of the board decides to replace DeJoy, it can.
Presidents are not Kings. Donald Trump thought he was a King. Joe Biden knows that he is not, and that he must follow the laws and rules.
So, there's your answer. President Biden cannot fire DeJoy. Congress cannot fire DeJoy. Only the Board can. There is no ASAP available.

(68,576 posts)hires and fires the Postmaster General. Biden is attempting to place three new members on the board. We would be tied with the GOP if they are approved and we would have the advantage. But it will take some time if it even works. I bet they are also looking at indicting DeJoy who likely broke the law...but it takes time so please just stop with the unneeded drama...put your effort in to the 22 mid term.
