Mitch McConnell Rejects 1/6 Commission Because It Wont Investigate Black People

"SNIP.....
McConnell criticized Speaker Pelosis proposed bipartisan Capitol attack commission because it wont also investigate the George Floyd protests.
Politico reported:
McConnell rejected a draft version of Pelosis proposed commission that would give Democrats a 7-4 majority on the panel, and he said any large-scale review of the insurrection must also include an analysis of broader political violence a nod to GOP complaints about a wave of riots across the country last summer that followed the death of George Floyd at the hands of police. Expanding the commissions mandate that way would likely spark significant Democratic resistance.
If Congress is going to attempt some broader analysis of toxic political violence across this country, the Kentucky Republican said, then in that case, we cannot have artificial cherry-picking of which terrible behavior does and does not deserve scrutiny.
The protests after the death of George Floyd were not political violence. Republicans are trying to merge two unrelated issues to muddy the waters as a way of exonerating Trump and congressional Republicans who helped terrorists and incited them by pushing the Big Lie that the election was stolen.

Elections have consequences, Mitch.

(3,131 posts)It is simple prioritization.
An attempted coup deserves its own focused investigation. Any other topic is a distraction from the most serious attack on our democracy since the civil war.
Now that Ive told Nancy what to say I can take a nap.

(46,095 posts)he should look into several African-American Q-Anons who were on Capitol Hill on January 6. One of them was the republican candidate who challenged our congressional representative. He went on F/B and told everyone where he'd be.

(24,412 posts)Doubtful that White Supremacist Republicans really want everything that happened with either to be thoroughly investigated. But I do agree that the widespread mistreatment of BLM protesters (and POC in general) and Trump's misuse of mysterious non-uniformed DHS personnel and how they were used to snatch people during the protests deserves a separate investigation, not to mention Trump's clearing out protesters for his upside-down Bible walk.

(3,635 posts)Many cops are white supremacist in their thinking which leads to acts of brutality against blacks/browns etc. BLM was a reaction to this, protests for justice, some of which turned violent (and some of that violence was driven by white nationalist 'accelerationist' looking to create a race war).
The insurrection was driven by white fragility and fear of diversity that liberals/Dems champion; Trump was seen as the 'last stand' for white racists who were desperate to throw out democracy and keep him in power forever.
