"The Battle of Los Angeles" -- February 24 & 25, 1942
Tonight marks the 79th anniversary of the "Battle of Los Angeles," the WWII air-raid (?) that formed the basis of Spielberg's inaccurately-named 1941. (The reality may have been more amusing than the movie, based on the latter's reviews.) My mom was an eyewitness to the events; this is her account, which became a favorite family legend.
