(Guardian UK) Beverly Hills has seen more residents arrested for participating in the US Capitol insurrection than any other city in California.
Three of the 14 California residents charged in connection with the pro-Trump riot in Washington on 6 January so far are from the wealthy Los Angeles county enclave: Gina Bisignano, a salon owner, and Simone Gold and John Strand, two rightwing activists who have spread coronavirus misinformation through their roles in Americas Frontline Doctors, an organization that Gold, an emergency room physician, founded.
The 11 other Californians who have been charged in the riot are scattered across the state, from San Diego to San Francisco, with three clustered in towns around Sacramento, the state capital, and two from towns in the notoriously conservative Orange county, south of Los Angeles.
The prominence of Beverly Hills and the profile of the three residents who have been charged reflects what experts say are broader trends in the backgrounds of the more than 250 people charged so far in connection with the Capitol riot. .............(more)

(9,054 posts)If you're poor or working class, you're too busy working and providing for your family to hang out on Internet forums all day. Spending tons of time on social media is an indulgence. All the "influencers" we see are almost always people who come from relatively affluent backgrounds. When I see young people with a large following on social media, they are almost always from an upper middle class family. They can afford this shit. I keep thinking of Lori Loughlin's daughter as a prime example.
I'm not sure why anyone's shocked.
And to spend all that time on the Internet and then also be able to book a flight and hotel for a protest on the other side of the country? What was the reporter expecting, exactly? Joe Car Mechanic isn't exactly managing that one.
I'm somewhat amused that a journalist managed to squeeze an entire article out of three whole people, though. Nice conceit. I'm trying to find the angle here. "Breaking news, rich people are often Republican."
What?! Why didn't anyone tell me?
Epicenter! Three people. Epicenter!
I am dumber for having read this.

(89,244 posts)as those who struggle financially and make excuses for them. They do this by excluding non whites in whatever they want to come up with.
Rural voters get attention because they vote Republican in far greater percentage than those who live in other type of areas but this is mostly because rural voters tend to be mostly white.
It's true there are more Democrats in cities but there are more Republicans there compared to republicans in rural areas also.
I am in a heavily blue state and city and easily come across shitty Trump supporters. The small business ones are the worst .
