(47,423 posts)Reward for return of the dogs, no questions asked. Not for information leading to apprehension of the shooter (and 500 k could get a lot of people talking).

(18,402 posts)That's my guess: make an offer that can't be refused to return the dogs, then nab the returner (probably not the shooter himself) and shake it out of them as to who the criminal is.
Didn't you ever watch Perry Mason. Paul Drake would have been the stakeout guy.

Because nobody has ever offered a reward for lost or stolen dogs. Its never happened in the history of the world.

No questions asked? What about the poor guy who was shot? No thought or reward for information leading to justice for her employee? Shows what he's worth to her.

(53,194 posts)Given that, if I was the police I'd stake out the airports. My bet is someone in Eastern Europe hired the gunman to grab these specific dogs. Fortunately, French Bulldogs are distinctive and not all that common.

(5,111 posts)They tend to use kittens for that. These dogs were worths thousands of dollars probably great bloodlines. They knew exactly wat they were doing.

(27,461 posts)A no questions asked reward offered by a civilian doesnt mean shit when it comes to a criminal case. But it might get the dogs back from the person they are sold to.
I would do the same if I had the money. And after I got the dogs back I would offer a million for the arrest and conviction of the shooters.
LisaL

Not for providing information to catch the robbers.

(53,194 posts)If she said she was offering a reward for the return of the dogs but the police would be there to investigate the shooting, would anyone show up to collect? Hell no, theyd sell off the dogs on Craigslist and go on with their merry lives.
I get the feeling when the culprit shows up to collect the reward shes going to introduce them to her good friends Sergeant OMalley, Sergeant Stedenko and Sergeant Smith.
kysrsoze
(6,446 posts)Two men came to a house supposedly looking to buy them, and they ran out of the house with two of them. The owner tried to stop one, and one of the dognappers fought her off. It was all caught on the home's security cameras. It could very well be the same group.
Dognappers are absolute scum of the earth - no regard for the dogs or their owners.

(11,686 posts)I suspect the reward with no questions asked is a trap. She might have her line tapped for any calls for the reward. The police might be staking the place out. If she gives money maybe she will try to give them a check because they can be easily found when they try to cash it.

(5,179 posts)Not one damn penny for the dogs. To pay would encourage and lead to more dognapping and shootings.
Half a million reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the shooters. For $500K, some people would turn in their mothers.
Recovering the dogs would be nice - and she probably has chips inserted, so any visit to the vet would result in information. To try and breed and sell - purebreds, people want information on the parentage.

(302 posts)Nothing else matters but getting the dogs/pets back, even the greater good in not reinforcing this kind of behavior with rewards. Not getting them back and not doing all you can do is not an option.
Like what happened to the Patriots Coach Jerrod Mayo, his dog was killed because the captors felt too much heat. You have little choice but to incentivize someone to report seeing the dog before it's too late. Do everything you can do to smoke them out and let the cops follow the breadcrumbs.
People who buy puppy mill dogs dont look at pedigrees. Who besides the Amish, who I dont think are involved in this, runs a big puppy mill network?
Dan
(5,179 posts)...reference your point, so I guess a dog is just a dog, and when you want a certain type of dog you really arent concerned with the pedigree - just the looks.
Id stick with rescue dogs....they seem to last forever and as a mutt, no one going to shoot you for it. (I hope).
nolabear
(43,850 posts)I just mention I have them because I feel for her and identify with how miserable she must be. Im never shocked by DU snark any more but there are good reasons for no questions asked. This is about the dogs, not the walker, whose shooting no doubt is being vigorously investigated and who is currently safe.
I have no doubt the dogs are microchipped. To put out a reward that encourages anyone who might lay out money for a Frenchie or know where there are a couple of new ones around gives her a maximum chance theyll be identified and brought home. And it could give someone impetus to squeal. If anyone thought theyd be not asked but accused (which is what thats really designed to imply) then it seriously throws up blocks.
Good wishes for a happy resolution all around.

So there is a $500k reward for the dogs. "no questions asked"
I dunno man. If someone shot 4 times. I think we should be asking a few questions of someone who has the dogs.
And most of the article seems focused on the dogs (which are presumably safe), but just a few sentences of the shooting victim.

My guess is that she was advised not to offer an award just yet for info on the suspects but was okayed to offer it for the dogs.
The dogs go for 5 to 30 k each and since they are her dogs I'm sure their worth is much, much more now.
The previous bulldog puppies which were stolen in North Hollywood were probably going to an open market for sale.
The police have the female involved but the 2 guys still haven't been caught nor have the dogs been recovered. That one was an adoption gone wrong.
