Facebook is a vile right wing machine and should be shunned but anyone that also shuns Fox News, OAN, newsmax or any other propaganda site.

(3,216 posts)It might be just a screwed up "algorithm" though.
But that's no excuse.
I got flagged a couple of times for joking about "all men are" so and so, although it was obviously just a sarcastic, satirical comment.
Maybe we should find a new place, like the right wingers are.
Liker anyone?

(42,862 posts)... rather than using their brains, they assumed that the manufactured MOB must have been justified in their outraged.
Facebook needs to do more training, or have "sanity checkers" for situations like this. Especially with high-profile accounts.
Caliman73
(11,767 posts)No doubt they have instant mobs to alert on content they don't like and many a moderator gets overwhelmed by hundreds of alerts.

Drop in the bucket, but maybe it helps slow the hate down a tiny bit.

(30,613 posts)Facebook is using you to spread their Fascist agenda. If you think the lack of GOP propaganda on your timeline means you are fine, you are wrong. You are a funding stream that supports the propaganda push.

(295 posts)Watch The Social Dilemma, and then delete your FB account. I've said this before elsewhere, as soon as you log-on - regardless of your intent - you are complicit in dumping your data (and that of your customers, friends, followers and so forth) into their money stream. They don't care what you do on their platform, just so long as you ARE on the platform, and the longer the better the more money they make.

(10,533 posts)Which is exactly how Facebook likes it. They control what you see and don't see, and they use your interaction with the site to model behavior and target information (and disinformation) at people like you. Whatever gets the most "engagement", and increasingly that means right-wing propaganda designed to provoke anger and hate.

And Im forced back to the same damn question:
What does that say about the voters who somehow see fit to vote this vermin into Congress - in THEIR name (besides NOTHING good)?

Facebook banned accounts of the military of Myanmar and its related media entities on Wednesday night, citing its history of exceptionally severe human rights abuses and potential to use social media to pursue new rounds of violence following a coup earlier this month.
~
Military personnel had used Facebook extensively to push propaganda against the Rohingya minority group amid a genocidal campaign beginning in 2017, prompting many to accuse the company of enabling mass murder a point underscored by a scathing U.N. report in 2018 that concluded Facebook played a key role in fomenting violence.

The right wing lies that social media is biased against conservatives.

Why Wont Twitter Treat White Supremacy Like ISIS? Because It Would Mean Banning Some Republican Politicians Too.
(Snip)
With every sort of content filter, there is a tradeoff, he explained. When a platform aggressively enforces against ISIS content, for instance, it can also flag innocent accounts as well, such as Arabic language broadcasters. Society, in general, accepts the benefit of banning ISIS for inconveniencing some others, he said.
In separate discussions verified by Motherboard, that employee said Twitter hasnt taken the same aggressive approach to white supremacist content because the collateral accounts that are impacted can, in some instances, be Republican politicians.
(Snip)
Though Twitter has rules against abuse and hateful conduct, civil rights experts, government organizations, and Twitter users say the platform hasnt done enough to curb white supremacy and neo-Nazis on the platform, and its competitor Facebook recently explicitly banned white nationalism. Wednesday, during a parliamentary committee hearing on social media content moderation, UK MP Yvette Cooper asked Twitter why it hasnt yet banned former KKK leader David Duke, and Jack, ban the Nazis has become a common reply to many of Twitter CEO Jack Dorseys tweets. During a recent interview with TED that allowed the public to tweet in questions, the feed was overtaken by people asking Dorsey why the platform hadnt banned Nazis. Dorsey said we have policies around violent extremist groups, but did not give a straightforward answer to the question. Dorsey did not respond to two requests for comment sent via Twitter DM.
(Snip)
Twitter has not publicly explained why it has been able to so successfully eradicate ISIS while it continues to struggle with white nationalism. As a company, Twitter wont say that it cant treat white supremacy in the same way as it treated ISIS. But external experts Motherboard spoke to said that the measures taken against ISIS were so extreme that, if applied to white supremacy, there would certainly be backlash, because algorithms would obviously flag content that has been tweeted by prominent Republicansor, at the very least, their supporters. So its no surprise, then, that employees at the company have realized that as well.

I'm tired of the bullshit from Republicans. Social media is biased in their favor regardless of what they say.

(10,969 posts)There are tens to hundreds of millions of posts on FB every day. There is no humanly physical way for moderators to read and react to every single post reported. Instead, the system uses an algorithm, searches for keywords, etc. I imagine the initial post received a flood of reports from disgruntled right-wingers. All the automated software saw was a lot of outrage about a transgender issue. It took the post down. Once it was brought to an actual human's attention, it was put back up.
The end.
It doesn't mean, "FB hates transgendered people and loves fascism!"
FFS.
Put the pitchforks down. It's just software. Give the humans ten seconds to correct the errors before reaching for the molotovs.
