General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDo you use a mobile device exclusively to browse DU?
I bring this up because I *do* only use a mobile device (don't ask), and thus use the mobile formatting option (available in My Account preferences) which does not show user avatars nor signature lines...
...which means, of course, that it's not readily apparent that a poster has changed their username.
Not that it matters that much, as I tend to not pay much attention anyway to authorship, but occassionally it does or will become an issue.
So, just wondering how many others may only be using a mobile?

(16,929 posts)I broke my computer last year and I don't have the money to fix it right now. My username was LuvNewcastle. I misspelled my new username, though, because of the autocorrect on this tablet and I'm checking to see if I can change it. I wish I could see who the old usernames were, too, but maybe people will mention it in their posts.

(4,566 posts)but it drives me crazy to try to post from my phone so a lot of times I'll see a thread I want to comment on and then wait until I'm home so I can type up the response on my computer.
If I can add a kvetch, the version of DU that I see on my phone won't scroll over the the right side of the screen so I can't check what I'm typing on the right-most quarter of the screen.

(7,641 posts)I wonder if it's a phone setting of some sort?
It is crazy hard posting with a phone using one finger typing, so I rarely do long posts, and I used to leave out words, particularly articles, until I read that Russian trolls are often detected because of their English, especially leaving out articles. Ugh...
Apostrophes are such a PIA, too!

Sympthsical
(9,675 posts)I spend more time reading on my phone, but I cannot be bothered typing out replies on it. Probably why my post count is relatively low. I type 110 wpm, so trying to type anything on the phone is a frustrating experience for me. If I'm out and about, I read e-mails and websites, but I'll wait til I get home to compose a response unless it's absolutely necessary. Usually, however, I've totally forgotten what I wanted to respond to by then.
Suffice to say, I am not much for texting. Unfortunately, my partner is. As I'm writing this response, my phone is lighting up. I know it's him. 9 messages in the past two minutes? He looooooves texting. Drives me crazy.
I seriously don't know how y'all are writing out posts on the regular just with a phone.

(4,566 posts)I read that the woman who wrote 50 Shades of Grey wrote the entire original draft on her Blackberry. I just can't imagine. Sending a text longer than two sentences makes me want to smash my phone into a wall.

(2,909 posts)I used to be able to look at the greatest page threads by time, browse into one, read it, then press the back button and most of the time I would still see the greatest threads listed by time. Now, when I press the back button they are always listed by the number of recs. I mostly want to be able to see the newest ones.
About 2/3rds of my DU reading is on my phone.

(66,955 posts)Here's why:
I occasionally use the phone, but 90+% of my time on DU is on a 10.5" Android tablet through my home WiFi.
So, it's not what I call my mobile device.
And, I have both of them set to see the computer monitor view, not mobile view.
Have to do a a lot of zooming in & out on the phone. Tablet works just fine.
So, I use the mobile device some, but tablet is 95% of the rest & laptop is the other 5%.
