I was sweating the draft big time, and the politicians were going all out, sending hundreds of thousands of boys to Vietnam, knowing full well a lot of them would die there. Or worse yet, their brains permanently scrambled by the shit that they saw and the shit they had to do....... A war that existed purely for the good of the Giant Military Complex and the GOP. Of course the Politicians kids didn't go, but that is a different story. And a lot of the kids that did go, maybe even the majority, were not able to vote since the age to vote then was 21. They were able to fight and die for their country, but had no say in voting against the people ordering them into the service.
There were bunches of demonstrations across the Nation singing: "we're old enough to fight, but not for voting"......
Of course, all the cops enjoyed bashing all the protesters brains out with their riot batons, all of the cops being the rah-rah America assholes.
Fearing the loss of votes for them by the younger generation when they finally reached 21, they made the age to vote 18. Some of us made it almost to 21 before the law passed, so we got screwed.
Are any of you old enough to remember those times and the huge amount of anti war songs? Did you know that during desert storm, the RepubliCON owned radio stations across the entire nation, intentionally banned the playing of any of those songs.......A friend worked for one of those countless radio stations and the staff was given a list of 100 songs they were not allowed to play........War, what is it good for; We're on the verge of destruction, I see a red door and I want it painted black, where have all the flowers gone, etc etc etc.
