I think Trump will be the 2024 GOP candidate.

I think he'll run because he'll be swamped in legal cases and the presidency will be the best protection from legal consequences.
I'm sure he also craves the perks and status of the position, of course.

If he runs I'm confident he'll have no problem winning the primary.
The GLOP has become his cult.

Running against (Kamala?) though, will be a new challenge and I hope an unsurmountable one.

Lyndon LaRouche ran for President from prison in 1992.
Eugene Debs ran while in prison in 1920.

The only difference is, Тяцмр could win.

I think what the GOP is counting on is the fact that Trump will be so badly damaged by the investigations/indictments that will take place between now and 2024, they can extricate themselves from him without too much backlash for doing so.

That's when the "I'm the new messiah" presidential wannabees will go all out to capture the now-disillusioned Trump-humpers - who will be all ears.

January 6.

"Mr Trump, why did you wait two and a half hours before you issued a statement telling your followers to stand down at the Capitol that day? Many deaths and injuries took place in that time frame that cold have been avoided."

Also there are credible threats of more violence, specifically during Biden's addresses to congress that have already been issued. He has done nothing to get out in front of that and tamp down the threats.

These are things that we need to bombard the airwaves with, time and time and time and time again. Should be way too much for him to overcome.

I use the word "should" because nothing about trump and his minions shocks me any more.

The investigations are all deep state and many are perfectly happy with what happened on 1/6. Only chance he isn't the nominee is if his health appears to worsen or he doesn't run.

He was already cutting events short becsuse it was too cold or too hot and he has trouble staying on his feet.

He will be near 80 years old in 4 years .

But I can see him having an influence on who is the nominee if he is still alive.

Maybe, MAYBE one of his idiot kids.

The presidency is Trump's alone, and people like Pompeo or Cotton are hopelessly arrogant and deluded if they think he will let any of them get anywhere near it.

The only thing that could give that a chance of happening would be a MAJOR screw-up by the Biden-Harris team, and I just don't see that as even a remote possibility.

I think they will go with a known younger loser (Rubio, maybe), or else some hotshot newcomer, a Hawley or Cotton type, but without their baggage. Sort of a W type with a little more candlepower upstairs.

I'm sure ALL presidents get taken in to some degree by the perks and the status of the position. It's all the rest of the headaches that start to weigh on you sooner or later. It wasn't the gourmet White House food (and MAN is it good!), the weekends at Camp David, the accommodations aboard Air Force One or the nice digs that gave Obama all that grey hair.

a president should, obviously to me, be indictable, susceptible to subpoena (wasn't bill clinton deposed in that sex suit?) and accountable to the law like everyone else.
