Humility becomes President Biden

I keep thinking about this and how endearing I found it.

Biden says he's uncomfortable with how much he's waited on in the White House. Trump had bragged about the opulence at a similar point in his presidency.

President Biden said he was "extremely self-conscious" about being waited on in the White House.

At a CNN town hall, he said he was "raised in a way that you didn't look for anybody to wait on you."

In the first week of his presidency, Trump bragged about the opulence of the White House.

President Joe Biden said on Tuesday that he was uncomfortable with how much he was waited on by staff in the White House. President Donald Trump had bragged about its opulence at a similar point in his presidency.

Remember the first few debates, when he'd cut himself short while defending his record?

He has the hardest time speaking up for what he's done well. That fits with his Catholic school upbringing and the training to think of others more than yourself.

He sure didn't shine early on in the debates. He was running out of money by South Carolina. Between South Carolina and Super Tuesday the whole race upended. James Clyburn's endorsement was huge.

We had some great candidates and it was easy to overlook him amidst them, especially a couple of the women who I liked a lot. But I have no doubt we ended up with the best candidate to beat Trump and put our country back together.

...to learn to do for themselves. She said something about not wanting them to “grow up thinking it was normal for a grown man in a suit and tie to be waiting on them at meals.”

But I do think living in the White House means having a lot of people around. Mom’s not cooking those meals, but choosing a menu. Someone brings it to the residence, and yes, they serve it. Same with giving up other elements of running a more modest household, like laundry. Sure someone is taking care of such things for you, but it behooves you and your children to not create almighty messes and to learn names and say thank you.

Really, the Obamas and Bidens are much more like the rest of us than the Trashy Trumps. For one thing, they all have real jobs.

But to people like the previous maladministration, it's another arrow in their quiver of toxic one-upmanship.
