Of course all here are free to choose the people and issues they publicize with an OP,

but could we please consider just "shunning" he who shall not be named and the CPAC circus?

I am sure that much of what is said or done there is outrageous, but why amplify, justify and dignify if by repeating it on line?

Quit talking about him and giving his fascist rantings any legitimacy as they are presented innocuously as “political speeches” As scaramucci said on Bill Maher a while back, attention empowers him. And as an attention
addicted sociopath the lack of attention will hurt him like nothing else.

I don't know where the line is between knowing the enemy and not boosting the enemy and you make a valid point as always, but speaking for myself only, I need to know what they're doing so I can stand against it in real life.

Do such posts educate more than they inflame? Most of the time "no" in my opinion.

Thanks for your reasonable disagreement.

....because I want to know what they're up to, but "justify" and "dignify"? I can only speak for myself, but I can venture an opinion, and that opinion is, I don't believe there is one single Democrat here or anywhere else that would not take exception to those accusatory descriptions. I have not seen one single post concerning the groups or individuals referenced in the OP that is for the purpose of justifying or dignifying those groups or individuals. It does not upset or bother me to read posts which point out the sheer dishonesty, hypocrisy, racism, and misogyny concerning the opposition. I view them as weapons to be thrown into the face of those who support these views.
Having said that, I have to wonder why I am seeing so many threads asking people to stop discussing CPAC and what occurs there. I would not go into any battle figuratively or physically without knowledge of my opponent's strengths and weaknesses. Logic topped off with common sense.

merely repeating what is said down there does "dignify" and "justify" it in a way that has to please "them".

I understand your points, but you post presumes that all those exposed repeatedly to the ignorance and calumny spewed by "the enemy" have your abi,ity to weigh, judge and refute it. They do not. Many form their opinions based on just the headlines.

Thanks for your response.

.... is where you and I basically part company. I have seen too many examples of bad publicity bringing down bad people to believe there was any good for them that came of it.

I contend that the notion there are Democrats/liberals/Progressives who do not have the capability to weigh, judge, or refute are few and far between, and the exposure of the rot that is the trump/Republican Party in creating awareness of what the left is up against absolutely outweighs the incurious and willfully ignorant few.

We obviously have opposing opinions on the subject, so perhaps the best way to resolve the difference is to simply agree to disagree.

I prefer to have some idea of what they're up to.

I think people here tend to greatly exaggerate the degree to which posts on DU amplify anything out there at this point. No one is going to hurt anything because they discuss a current event on here.

If there's stuff you don't want to see, you can use the "trash threads by keywords" function.
