General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI work in a vaccination distribution location 3 to 5 days a week.
I have been working there for two months. I work from 7:00am to 7:00pm with only a few short breaks. We vaccinate thousands of people a day. Today I helped to vaccinate 78 people and yesterday 131 people. Every person I have dealt has been so happy to get the first or second dose of the vaccine. I have seen people break down in tears and other people cheer when they get vaccinated. A lot of people talk about how much they want to see their family members soon. Even though it is tiring work, it is rewarding to know that each person who gets vaccinated brings us a little closer to the world getting back to something more normal.

(258 posts)I got the 1st vaccine last week at the VA. The nurse vaccinating me said she had been there since 5:30 am and hadnt been able to take a lunch break. It was 1:45 pm. I thanked her for her dedication and we chatted. I then discovered that she was the person who had called me at 1 pm to ask if I wanted the vaccine. Im 59 and am not in the eligible category (65 and older). I was able to get the shot because she said not enough eligible vets showed up for the VA vaccine walk-in clinic and the VA didnt want to throw vaccines out. So, rather than take a lunch break when it slowed down, she made phone calls and stayed to vaccine the vets who took up the offer of an early vaccine.
I really appreciate the work that you and the other healthcare workers are doing.

(25,857 posts)I'm 72 years old, have signed up for the vaccine, and I am feeling more and more irritated when I read of younger people getting the vaccine. I realize each state is doing it differently, but I know way too many younger people in my own state getting the vaccine.
I am tired of the free-for-all this is turning into.

(3,275 posts)I don't have anything to do with the reservations. I just see people when they get their first and second dose. I know that each person is in a priority group like age, occupation or medical issue. I hope you are able to get your vaccination soon.

Thanks for doing your part, IrishEyes, and more.

(23,668 posts)of all the workers there. The vaccine was given in a large community auditorium and aside from being filled with people, workers and recipients combined, the noise was deafening. Each person I interacted with was gracious and helpful. I thought how do they do it, concentrate on their assignment, whether taking information or giving shots, I 'm not sure I would be able to do it.
So THANK YOU to all the workers, AND that includes you IrishEyes!!!!

(14,047 posts)From the time I arrived until I left: 30 minutes - including the 15-minute wait after the injection to make sure I did not have a negative reaction. I let everyone that I came in contact with how much I appreciated them and how impressed I was with the operation.
BTW - for those like me who may have a touch of needle phobia: The injection was completely painless. Later a had some mild soreness that I only notice when I raise my arm.

(3,562 posts)There were so many young people working at the drive-in location. We were wondering and hoping that the people were paid, seems very tiring work and long days?
Thank you for your service - its truly a life saver.

(3,275 posts)Breakfast is served before work starts. We get half an hour for lunch. Dinner is served after work ends. I usually eat it there before going home but sometime I take it home. The job pays pretty well.
