Husband of Hitler-quoting GOP congresswoman parked his militia-stickered truck outside Capitol Jan. 6

Illinois state Rep. Chris Miller (R), the husband of freshman U.S. Rep. Mary Miller (R-Ill.), acknowledged Thursday that his pickup truck was parked in a restricted area outside the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot, but he said the "Three Percenter" militia sticker on the back window doesn't mean anything.

"Army friend gave me decal," Miller told The Daily Beast in an email late Thursday. "Thought it was a cool decal. Took it off because of negative pub." He said he "never was member" of the militia and "didn't know anything about 3% till fake news started this fake story and read about them." Online sleuths had linked him to the truck visible in footage from a CBS News report, earlier Thursday.

The Three Percenters, founded in 2008, are a "radical militia group" implicated in leading the Jan. 6 siege along with the Proud Boys, the Oath Keepers, and other far-right extremist groups, the FBI said in an affidavit filed in the case against alleged rioter Robert Gieswein. Their name comes from the apocryphal claim that only 3 percent of U.S. colonists fought in the Revolutionary War, and they fashion themselves as the same kind of tyranny-stomping "patriots."

Miller's wife, Mary Miller, is most famous for favorably quoting Nazi leader Adolf Hitler at a "Moms for America" rally outside the Capitol on Jan. 5. "Hitler was right on one thing: whoever has the youth has the future," she told the rally, apologizing later when video of her comments went viral but insisting that "some are trying to intentionally twist my words to mean something antithetical to my beliefs."

Illinois Republican's husband denies ties to militia group despite truck decal

Miller has said that he did not know what the logo meant and denied being involved with the group. In a statement to the Daily Beast, which first reported on a photo of Miller’s truck parked at the Capitol, the Republican state lawmaker said he was displaying a “cool” sticker given to him by an “Army friend.”

He later said in a statement from his office that the sticker was given to his son by a family friend who said that it was representative of “patriotism and love of country,” the Washington Post reported.

But, in a video posted to his Facebook page last year, the Three Percenters logo can be seen on a banner behind Miller at a rally in Springfield, Ill., ABC News noted. An Illinois group that helped organize the rally uses a logo featuring imagery from the Three Percenters, according to the outlet.

The Three Percenters is an anti-government militia group named after the inaccurate claim that only three percent of American colonists fought against the British during the revolutionary war.

But this isn't the first time he has helped promote the Three Percenters. In videos posted online, including one video posted to his own Facebook page, he stood in front of a Three Percenters banner -- and a QAnon sign -- last year as he railed against Democrats.

"We can be thankful [that] neither 'Crooked Hillary' or 'Creepy, Sleepy Joe' will ever be the president of the United States," he said in the video, which was shot at a May 2020 rally in Springfield, Illinois, where he and many others protested state measures to curb the COVID-19 pandemic. "We can be thankful … that we have a great American patriot in the White House that is determined to make America great again."

An Illinois-based group that helped organize the rally uses a logo that features "Three Percenters" imagery. The group promised followers ahead of the rally that "some big speakers" would be participating.

In another video of his remarks posted online, Chris Miller declared, "We have identified our domestic enemies as Nancy Pelosi."
