LOOK: A WW2 bomb was detonated in the English town of Exeter on Saturday.

The bomb was discovered a day earlier and led to the evacuation of 2,600 properties. The Devon and Cornwall Police said the resulting crater was “around the size of a double decker bus”

Humanity ends up living with the repercussions of war decades after it ends. Bombs and landmines tend to outlive those who were responsible for their initial use.

Here's some more info on the bomb.

The blast impact from the German device - a so-called "Hermann bomb" - was described by police as "significant", with debris thrown at least 820ft (250m) away.

A number of properties "predominantly" within the 100m-zone "suffered structural damage, including broken windows and cracked walls", according to the Devon and Cornwall force.

"Debris, including large metal objects, were thrown in the blast, some of which landed on nearby roofs, which require the use of a crane to remove," a spokesperson said.

About 1,400 students were among the evacuees following the find by builders on private land next to the University of Exeter's Streatham campus at about 09:20 GMT on Friday.

we left behind in our various soirees' into other countries.

Mines, bombs, bomblets,

Seems there's always a better way to kill our "enemies" .

Imagine 300 of that type of bomb being dropped on a city at one time.....

I took a WW1 related tour, and one of the stops was a farm where we saw shells that the farmer had pulled from the ground that week and set out for collection.

Our guide made a really interesting point, that the armies of the great powers descended on Belgium in the first world war, and though the armies eventually left, the war never did...the people there live with it every day.

Something to consider when countries consider going to war.

They damage FAR more buildings that the one they actually hit directly.

Look at OKC. The Murrah Building was all but destroyed, and anyone conscious at any time over the last 30 years has seen that, but one of the things that was very under-reported was the damage to the area surrounding it. More than 300 buildings were damaged or destroyed within a 16 block radius.
