because among others Obama mentioned voting by mail as an option during the pandemic. Voting by mail has been going on for decades.
White supremacists won't rest until they lynch Obama.
Time for Biden to unveil that Obama portrait than Trump refused to place in the WHITE House.
Any bets Trump attacks Obama at that fathering of racists and fascists.
This is all out race war. Wake up America.

(1,751 posts)Can't be said enough. There are WAAAAYYYYY too many who dismiss the QOP as a joke or the just crazy talk. In 1923 Hitler was in jail. In 1934 he ran Germany. Damn straight people need to wake up to the danger conservatives are fostering.
The 2020 election bought us a tiny bit of breathing room, that is all.
Americas Next Authoritarian Will Be Much More Competent
Trump was ineffective and easily beaten. A future strongman wont be.

Make no mistake: The attempt to harness Trumpismwithout Trump, but with calculated, refined, and smarter political talentis coming. And it wont be easy to make the next Trumpist a one-term president.

At the moment, the Democratic Party risks celebrating Trumps loss and moving onan acute danger, especially because many of its constituencies, the ones that drove Trumps loss, are understandably tired. A political nap for a few years probably looks appealing to many who opposed Trump, but the real message of this election is not that Trump lost and Democrats triumphed. Its that a weak and untalented politician lost, while the rest of his party has completely entrenched its power over every other branch of government: the perfect setup for a talented right-wing populist to sweep into office in 2024. And make no mistake: Theyre all thinking about it.

(10,500 posts)It probably won't be in 2024, when Trump seems likely to run again. But in 2028 the Democrats will have been in power for 8 years, and traditionally people are looking to make change at that point. They are tired of whatever has been going on, and are more easily taken in by the latest swift boating operation.
The courts and state legislatures have already dramatically diminished our democracy. DeSantis could be the man the end it.

(5,897 posts)Gotta continue to vote in 2022. Gotta hold the House and the Senate, and preferably expand the margins in each. Of course 2024 will be vital in terms of keeping the WH, whether or not President Biden runs for reelection.

(268,968 posts)Yet this modern ritual won't be taking place between Obama and President Donald Trump, according to people familiar with the matter. And if Trump wins a second term in November, it could be 2025 before Obama returns to the White House to see his portrait displayed among every U.S. president from George Washington to Bush.
Trump is unconcerned about shunning yet another presidential custom, and he has attacked Obama to an extent no other president has done to a predecessor. Most recently he's made unfounded accusations that Obama committed an unspecified crime.
Obama, for his part, has no interest in participating in the post-presidency rite of passage so long as Trump is in office, the people familiar with the matter said.

There are tons of them. I liked the one Reagan used: Welfare Queen (shown as a black woman with a cadillac,) etc etc.
There are a lot of subtle, innocuous "psy-ops" dog whistle words that they use.......
I love the most recent NRA ad: "Biden is going to take away your semi-auto....." shown beside a semi-auto pistol.....

(10,828 posts)When you strip down the argument, this is all about race, ethnic and gender identity, the fear of being replaced by the Other: black and brown people, Jews, Muslims, women, gays etc., anyone outside the white, straight, pseudo-Christian male paradigm.
The focus right now is on race; black and brown communities are the primary scapegoats. But the tentacles of the movement spread to everyone outside the twisted ideology which, btw, isn't new. Any student of history recognizes the America First screech for what it is: FASCISTS ON PARADE.
Those embracing and/or making apologies for the movement must be denied power. As I've stated in earlier threads, the US dodged a bullet on November 3rd. If there's a second round of Trumpism? These mindless politicians and their supporters will deliver the kill shot.
Wake up America, indeed! We're treading dangerous waters.

Every time I see a black woman placed in a position of power - I think someone at the Park Service yesterday? - I breathe a little sigh of relief, feel like we are one step closer.
And this is not just some "affirmative action" bs, and it goes beyond representation, although that's a part of it.
I honestly feel we white folks have trashed this country with our sense of entitlement - entitled to waste, discriminate, corrupt, murder, you name it.
I work with different cultures - mostly immmigrants from Mexico, as well as white clients - and in my work I experience much more respect for our rules and laws, and attempts to respond timely, put in the effort, on the whole, from my immigrant clients, than from my white ones. Broad generalization, but my monolingual Spanish-speaking immigrant clients seem to value and respect our system more. Many of them seem brighter too, though they are often only educated through the 8th grade at most. Maybe it's our water here...
Don't they say that immigrants try harder? And of course, many are undocumented, so there's that ...

She is NOT afraid to speak truth to power. The more Cori Bush's we have in Congress, the better!
Oh, and don't get me started on AOC!
I was following one of her twitter threads last week. The quality of discourse, the excellent explanation about legislation (COVID relief) and other issues, the just plain civility in dialogue with random others on the thread, coupled with her energy and charisma - she elevates everything she touches!!!
Love the squad, is what I'm saying. They are our future and we would be smart to follow them. Our survival depends on them.

(1,402 posts)I love President Obama........I am a caucasian lady from northern MN. President Obama was great. I saw all the opposition to everything he wanted passed and all the negativity spewed by the reps. President Obama just held his head up and kept on going forward and was a wonderful example of decency for all of us. That is exactly why they can't stand him! President Obama is the smarter, kinder, greater leader and the reps can't stand that he out performed them. The reps think that tearing him down will bring him to their level, it will never happen.
