The investigators spotted her on a security video, walking with a person several minutes before the girl was found by herself. It shows the person getting further and further away from the girl, although they turned and looked at her a few times. The video is in the second tweet.
It's obviously very unusual for a child this young to have gone missing without the family calling the police.
A 4-year-old girl was found abandoned on the corner of a Bronx street and now cops are trying to figure out who her family is, authorities said Sunday.
The girl, who told investigators here name is Sidaya, was spotted standing by herself near Prospect Ave. and East 156 St. in the South Bronx just after midnight Saturday, police said. It was 40 degrees out and little Sidaya was wearing a sweater but no jacket.
After a concerned passerby called police, cops picked up the tot and took her to a Lincoln Hospital for evaluation
She was released from the hospital into Administration for Child Services custody in healthy condition, police said.

(55,068 posts)I imagine the woman in the video is somehow related to her, but she wouldn't even hold the little girl's hand while crossing the street. Despicable.

(63,221 posts)How awful! I am just so glad the police were able to reach her first before anything horrible happened to her. She must be terrified at having been just abandoned like that. I hope they are able to find a safe, decent living situation for her.

(58,785 posts)wasn't good luck, though, but the absence of rare evil. The vast majority of human beings would rush to care for a child in trouble.

(82,383 posts)just probably wondered at seeing her alone, but did not stop to help her.
With just the sweater, she could have wandered out of the house. Parents could be frantic.

(91,520 posts)if that is the case.
But if the parents are frantic wouldn't they have already reported her missing ?
Pongo
(4,170 posts)Dont you think theyd have reported her missing by now? Why is she wearing a sweater? Wouldnt she be in pajamas and in bed? Do the parents not lock their doors? How does a child of that age get out of a locked house?
treestar
(82,383 posts)I have heard of people saying how quick kids can do a thing like get out of the house.
And they might not have gotten her ready for bed.
There's no way to be sure until more is found out but it seems everyone wants to assume the parents abandoned her deliberately.

(11,897 posts)This story just doesn't make sense. The child appears to be healthy and well cared-for...then this??? Someone is in some serious trouble, unless they fell down a flight of stairs at home, or something equivalent.

(32,739 posts)At first, I thought she was too bundled up to have done it on her own, but then I looked at her feet...so this is a very real possibility.

Or a safe loving new home for her.
It's my Burrough, too.

(16,879 posts)If that woman is a victim herself (human trafficking for example) or a drug addict I could imagine thinking that the girl had better chances with a random person or rescue on the street.

(4,238 posts)It's one thing to abandon them near a hospital or fire station during the day, a place where the likelihood of someone helping her would be greater. But after midnight in the cold, knowing the possibilities of what could happen to her?
