The US should boycott the 2022 Winter Olympics in China, former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley said Sunday, becoming the latest Republican to join a growing furor over the Games and Beijing's rights record.
"We must boycott the 2022 Winter Olympics in China," Haley, a one-time close ally of former president Donald Trump and herself a presidential hopeful, tweeted.
"It would be a terrible loss for our athletes, but that must be weighed against the genocide occurring in China and the prospect that empowering China will lead to even greater horrors down the road."
The Games are scheduled to begin on February 4 next year, just six months after the delayed summer Tokyo Olympics, but preparations for both have been overshadowed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Since our team has lost a year of training, and theirs has not, probably best not to go.

(83,654 posts)If it were in the US of A I would boycott it. Your Prez and party committed genocide of our people. More than a half million are dead because of you and yours. Let's add the caging of children and the persecution of others that are non white.
Lest we forget the attack on our capital and you and yours, insurrectionists, trying to overturn a fair election. You all made us a third word country. FU, Nik.

(6,384 posts)...really changed things!
And after the summer games in Tokyo, they go to Paris...then Los Angeles, where they can boycott them just like the Soviets in 84. This is just petty and and accomplishes nothing.
And it really only hurts the athletes, for some of them, this is their last "run" before they are retired. Should we rob that from them over politics that won't change anything? It's better to participate and then highlight the abuses during commercial breaks.
