Trump Calls Capitol Riots a Lovefest
March 1, 2021 at 6:42 am EST By Taegan Goddard 3 Comments
Said Trump: The press doesnt like to talk about it, but the real number was much, much bigger It was tremendous numbers of people, not the Capitol, Im talking about the rally itself, and it was a lovefest, it was a beautiful thing.

(47,430 posts)he misuses "beautiful". He really has no idea what the words mean. "Thank you very much, thank you", drive me nuts too, as if he'd ever been grateful for anything in his sorry life.

(46,104 posts)He initially and vehemently claimed the Attack on the Capitol was Antifa, not his supporters.
The Rally and the Attack were by the same group of people.

(43,182 posts)And not the actual invaders of the Capitol themselves.
It's the "very fine people" of 2021.

(28,340 posts)Live and since. All those people were wearing his name, flying his flag and ready to die for his benefit. It was a lovefest from his point of view. For Trump there is only Trump. It doesnt matter if they hate and even kill anyone else, so long as they love him. Thats all that matters.

(47,430 posts)When people worship him. He is like an addict, who craves love and attention all the time.

(47,057 posts)This is the kind of violent loyalty he craves.
PatSeg
(47,430 posts)he was encouraging violence at his rallies. It was obvious that he likes the violence and unwavering loyalty, a dream come true for such a monster. He's like a person who enjoys pit bull fights, taking a voyeuristic pleasure in watching bloody confrontations, that he takes no active part in.

(47,430 posts)He would never get involved personally. I'm quite sure he is a big wimp, all talk.

(90,766 posts)If people really believe he incited an insurrection, and I do, and that he has also incited his cult followers to act in other violent ways, and I do, then it is stupid to pretend he has been neutralized or that he will slide into obscurity.
He has a platform - the GOP is all too willing to give him one and to keep his name in the spotlight.
He can still incite violence.
Too many people have a knack for thinking an election can cure all that ails America. They breathe a sigh of relief and then immediately start putting all the bad behind them. It drives me crazy at how ignorant that position is and how dangerous.
I enjoyed the Biden win too, but that was merely the first step. We have to keep driving the point home that without a Democratic majority in Congress, Trump and the GOP will continue to attack America's democracy.
That the threat is not over.
America is still in danger.

(47,430 posts)As long as a great many people still listen to him, it does matter, though I think he's losing his power over the base. It sounds like his CPAC performance was not a resounding success. Americans tend to have a very short attention span and if someone isn't in their face 24/7 they often move on to something or someone else.
Now that he is unplugged from social media and is rarely seen on television, the uncanny spell could be lifting for many. I think Trump understood that and bombarded his followers with tweets and rallies, so they never had a chance to drift away. Kind of like a overly zealous suitor who pursues a woman with constant attention, never giving her a chance to rethink the relationship. In romantic comedies, it is rather sweet and sentimental, but in real life it can be creepy and stalker-like.

It is a strategy.
And like any strategy, if you use it over and over, it fails.
Another thing to consider is the way his supporters at the Capitol riot are are going to jail, he egged them on, and then left them twist in the wind.
When the sentences start coming down, many of his followers may start questioning just how far down the insurrection hole they want to follow hair fuhrer.
PatSeg
(47,430 posts)I think a lot of people are having second thoughts now. Its not fun and games when you are facing real jail time and especially when you leader is living the good life at his resort in Florida. Some lessons are really learned the hard way.
Hugin
(33,140 posts)It was a seditious armed insurrection.
In my mind Treason. So far, as usual, I'm in the minority.
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)The one facet of reporting on the insurrection that is badly underreported is what the objective was. Why did that mob storm the Capitol? Just to take a shit on the floor and smear their shit on the walls? Just to rifle through Speaker Pelosi's office? No. There was an objective, a goal, something they were trying to accomplish. And that's gotten lost in all the sensationalist coverage of the cultural appropriator shaman idiot or the realtor woman who hired a private jet to get to Washington.
Hugin
(33,140 posts)"But, for" what single person or factor would this event not have occurred?
It's a legal question generally used to assign liability and/or culpability.
We all know the answer, but, the Senate was in too much of a hurry to get back to obstruction to do anything about it.

As beautiful as he believes his rally was, it will never compare to the beauty of him losing the 2020 election.

(11,986 posts)Text specifically says he called the rally--and NOT what happened at the Capitol--a lovefest. Headline says the opposite.
We have so many legit things to go after him on, I hate seeing stuff mis-used, mis-quoted, etc. which the other side just can just use to show "how dishonest the left is." It's so unnecessary and can be self-defeating.

is he going to get away with this too? He was 99% responsible for the insurrection.
on that thought.... when will he be held to account for denying COVID and lying to people about it? He is responsible for some of those deaths also.
