In honor of my 1000th post, I want to share old news that's new to me.

I had no idea that Dylan hosted a radio show from 2006-2009, and returned last September to do another. Each show is theme-based, and there are 100+ available via YouTube and various other providers (see links).

Dylan’s inimitable commentary as he introduces each song is priceless. Every show I’ve listened to so far is a treasure. I never thought of him as “cozy,” but Dylan is great company in the middle of the night.

IIRC, Dylan had serious difficulty with stage fright for much of his career. Kind of surprising he'd do something like that.

16. I remember when they had him on.

In a Rolling Stone interview he said that they told him he could play anything he wanted, but he didn't believe that. After his first night, he was surprised they let him back on.

I sometimes listen to deep tracks, but I usually tune in to Little Steven's Underground Garage, where they have a DJ who also plays what they want. Former WMMS Cleveland DJ Kid Leo has the afternoon shift, but on Fridays they have guest DJs like Drew Carey or surf rocker Palmyra Delran. It's obvious and refreshing that they also work without a playlist.

A dear DU friend turned me on to WZIG, a tiny radio station in Florida, where volunteer hosts play whatever they want. It’s such a pleasant departure from commercial radio.

I was very interested in podcasts for a while, but it's a tiring and time-consuming endeavour.

My greatest interest was in Joe Rogan's, because he had such an incredible diversity in his guests and in the topics. Some of his repeat guests were especially great.

Not so great is him frequently claiming to be a liberal, then saying he was, at that point, going to vote for Trump. There were other issues, but that could have been the only one, and I'd still have quit listening to him.

I cannot foresee a problem like that with R. Zimmerman.

His way of weaving obscure tidbits of history, lore, and quirky personal observations into his commentary is fascinating, entertaining, educational and endearing, imho. And then there's the music.
