This morning at breakfast my nutritionist daughter brought up the brady diet. Very strict diet, lot strict rules: no; coffee, glutens , alcohol, certain vegs ruled out, etc., etc.
Daughter noted while there are healthy aspects, nutritionists often criticized the science behind it. Private chef needed of course.
My snarky critique - brady is a well known trump golfer/go for.
Diet may be deficient in critical brain foods.

(13,891 posts)Again, this is me... When I have a choice I don't eat gluten. But there is something about a po-boy served on a NOLA french bread that is hard to pass up. Thank god I don't have a gluten gut problem.

(13,964 posts)Nonetheless, Im obese and have zero discipline when it comes to eating. Ill go on a diet and stick to it for a week, then fall off the wagon. I need to work on that.

(13,891 posts)Eat like a King for breakfast, a Prince for lunch and a pauper for dinner. That leaves me about 16 hrs of a "half fast/fast". My problem is Beer...... liquid carbs and gluten... love the stuff.
I use to brew but making about 9 sixpacks a week got to be a bit much... drinking that is..
So I stopped..

(1,761 posts)it postulates that most of our problems are caused by refined carbs and high fructose. our body's insulin levels are negatively impacted by those foods. with the current types of food available, no wonder most have weight problems

(537 posts)I have lost 52 pounds since July, and it rapidly started dropping once I cut out added sugars, refined carbs, basically "white" anything. I will NOT go back to things I ate before. The energy levels thru the roof. Of course I got off the couch also but it's the food. That's the key. Just wish I had figured it out sooner

(537 posts)What is marketed to "us" as food, is not really food. They are products engineered to appeal to our ultimate fantasy taste wise. Sweet, salt, fat.... Speaking for myself, I went thru life not thinking about what I consumed. Just an automatic reflex to put into cart
"food items" on shelf. It is so wild to look at it from a different perspective and never having a thought about it before.
Thank you, the virus is the reason for the change. Perfect opportunity to change the behavior. Look for the silver lining everywhere.

(7,285 posts)After a couple of years of trying deny it, Lat September, I finally had to admit that I have Type II diabetes. My A1C was 10.4. Ugh.
I was put on meds (the doctor was considering insulin), and sent me to the diabetes specialist. She recommended a Keto diet. Lots of studies are now showing real impact on blood sugar control. Combine with meds, my A1C dropped to 5.5. My blood sugar rarely pops above 120. My blood pressure has normalized and I've dropped close to 60 pounds so far. I have had to give up some foods I like.... rice, pasta... and some veggies and fruits I like. But for the most part, I am satisfied with my diet, and rarely hungry.
For me, it's been a game changer.

My body tolerates 21 net carbs in a 2-hour sitting with similar results to yours. (Although losing weight takes conscious effort for me since my eating has emotional triggers, rather than hunger triggers.)
My A1c has never exceeded 7.X (I think below 7.6, but I'm not positive without looking). with the lowest dose of metformin (500 mg 1x /day) I'm down to 5.7.
And I feel so much better. I can tell by feel when I'm above 130, and I don't spend my days in a complete mental fog now.

(7,285 posts)I plan to stick pretty hard to Keto for a full year. After that, I will step up to a low-mod carb diet. The tough thing about a true hard keto diet is that it is HARD to go out, unless you stick some pretty narrow stuff. So much stuff has hidden sugars and carbs.

(34,060 posts)I was focused specifically on keeping my blood glucose in the normal range for non-diabetics. So I tested up to a dozen times a day while I learned precisely where those limits were, whether net carbs v. total carbs matter, whether simple v. complex mattered, etc.
