I heard Trumpers are pushing for Cuomo's replacement in hopes of pardoning the orange spud from New York State charges.
Any truth to this? Who would replace Cuomo and is he or she likely to be more sympathetic to Trump's New York State legal woes?

On edit: I'm not asking if you think Cuomo should be replaced, but if Trumpers are using this as a basis for their tactics. If there is no reason to believe his hypothetical replacement would look kindly on Trump then that is either not their tactic or they are deluding themselves once again.

(9,694 posts)This has nothing to do with Roger Stone or the Republicans. Im sure they are taking great delight in watching Cuomo squirm, but this all is self-imposed. Its is what happens when you act like a megalomaniacal and vindictive bully and have no friends in the state government, in either party, but rather just people who tolerate you out of necessity and fear you. The chickens are coming home to roost.
To the initial question, I dont see Lt. Gov. Hochul or any other NY Dem as being likely to even consider a pardon for Trump.

(68,556 posts)we could lose the seat...she will not win a governor's race statewide IMHO. We can't allow the GOP and some elements in our party to take down powerful Democrats for bullshit reasons.

(68,556 posts)period. We can't cave to the GOP...you think a Republican couldn't win New York? Think again. We can not continue to allow the GOP to destroy us with purity bullshit which some in our party keep falling for...we would have lost Virginia had we listened to those folks. It must end. I call bullshit on the entire story period.

(146,288 posts)His offences don't rise to that level at all. He was stupid, for sure, being an old man making suggestions to young women, but he did not follow through with any of it, as far as I am aware.
He's not going to resign.

(5,586 posts)She can make it as easy or as hard as she wants it to be. She may be a Dem, we may like her, and she may be going after Trump, but she's still a politician, and all politicians have an eye open for the next job.
Can she use this as a way to raise her profile? Can she run for Governor like Cuomo did after he investigated Spitzer?
I hardly think a pardon is even on the table for Trump. An investigation like this will take years. Vance has millions of documents to go through, and it's not like there's going to be yellow highlights and circles around illegal activity.
I fear that nobody here really understands the scope of an investigation like this into Trump. How many attorneys and investigators can Vance and James realistically assign to this case? And it's not guaranteed they find any criminal activity. And even if they do, there's no guarantee they can tie it to Trump, especially if if came from the Trump Org. It's going to be a year before they even understand all the properties and claims and what is going on at the Trump Org.
It's not even like they have a complete record yet. Each property will have it's own relationships with vendors and everything else. They're going to have to subpoena all of those companies to get a more complete view of each transaction. That's hundreds of subpoenas from companies they don't even know about yet. "Why was this money paid to this property of the Trump org? Oh, they sent it for that reason."
Meanwhile, they have a significant increase in the crime rate in NYC. How long can Vance and James justify the resources devoted to Trump with a crime emergency on their hands. Trump's not even in office anymore.
Finally, a skyrocketing crime rate is not a good look for an AG that aspires to higher office.

(15,390 posts)There are also at least three State Senate/Assembly Democrats calling for his resignation, and that list will surely grow (especially once a big-name Democrats agrees). Once a person admits to anything improper at all in harassment cases, it's usually the end. Cuomo admitted to some improper talk last night.

However, I don't see Cuomo running again, which is the main objective of the charges. Otherwise, he might have tried to tie Nelson Rockefeller's 4 terms (although Nelson didn't finish out the fourth).

(20,841 posts)The Lt Governor would lose bigtime for any office in that state if she pardoned Trump. No Democrat wants to sacrifice their career for Trump. There's no reason to, either. He's history in New York City.

(13,493 posts)1) Cuomo is a total jerk who has reaped what he sowed.
2) Cuomo won't be going anywhere, nor do I want him to.
3) If he was replaced, a Trump pardo would be VERY unpopular in NY state, so it won't happen
4) Cuomo deserves to have his feet held to the fire
5) Cuomo is more hated by progressive democrats than Republicans, and this is coming from that wing.
6) Progressive democrats are popular in some areas of NY State, but they won't win statewide for Gov role.
7) Who knows what James will do...
8) I don't even know what the right thing to do here is.

Cuomo isn't going to resign or be removed from office. Yeah, he has his flaws, but get real, people.
