Calls for a boycott of Goya beans, chickpeas and other foodstuffs have grown louder after chief executive Robert Unanue made a series of false claims about the presidential election in a speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference, or CPAC, in Florida on Sunday.
Unanue has previously courted controversy with praise for Donald Trump, which last year prompted Ivanka Trump to pose, infamously, with a can of Goya beans.
Onstage in Orlando, Unanue called Donald Trump the real, legitimate and still actual president of the United States.
He also falsely claimed the presidential election that Trump lost conclusively to Joe Biden and the state contest in Georgia, which Biden won narrowly, were not legitimate, and claimed mail-in ballots were fraudulent.

I'll use whatever non-brand name product I can find now over Goya.

(8,043 posts)If so, we might have another candidate for a nice juicy law suit.
In the end this all might end up bankrupting or at least substantially draining the swamp of far right funding that's done so much to harm this country.
Well, I can hope, anyway.

(5,641 posts)There is a Mexican grocery in Post Alley. I walked in and did a round but walked right back out. 8 out of 10 products on the shelf AND in the frig freezer sections were Goya brands. Hell! I didnt know they had so much to choose from but they do and I thought I was in a Goya store not a mom and pop Mexican grocery.
Blech!

(17,862 posts)The guy and his family own the company. So long as 50% + 1 share is willing to go along with him being CEO, he will be CEO. Their words about silencing him are pretty hollow.
Goya has incredible market penetration and brand loyalty (such that most companies would kill for). It seems they are willing to trade some of that for a Republican one party state run by fascists. It must bring those warm feelings of Francisco Franco back I guess. I wonder when the chips are down that they might not find the Anglo fascists a bit less receptive to them and their customers.

(10,885 posts)that the Goya products were completely stocked on the shelves, while other brands had visible space available. Looks like people aren't buying what the CEO has to say or what he has to sell.
