Secret Service just released new docs showing Trumps first trip to Bedminster as POTUS in 2017 and the spigot of taxpayer money it opened for his business.
First trip: 4 days, Trump Org charged the Secret Service $5,343 for a cottage near Trump.

After that, the Secret Service started renting the cottage every night, just to be ready. Trump Org charged $566.64 per night, every night.
First bill: $9,689.60.
That was the start. Over Trumps presidency, Trump charged taxpayers more than $392,000 for rooms at Bedminster.

If it isn't standard procedure, then it seems to me, Trumps retirement salary can be levied/garnished for these charges paid for by taxpayers and any other expenses he put on taxpayers which benefited him personally or his businesses. However the legal terminology is stated.

I imagine this would be construed to cover SS agents as well.

(7,271 posts)Or does it mean legally we are on the hook to enrich the President (or any other elected official requiring Secret Service) .
I'm thinking about how the 'quarters' in question is actually owned by the President in this case. Thereby was financially beneficial to that mobster. arrggh. Seems like there ought to be a law.

And other amendments need to be strengthened.
If the Trump administration didn't teach Congress and the country this much, what in the hell will?

(8,790 posts)the SS reserved the entire fleet of golf carts for a month at one of his local golf courses, even though it was for some other visitor and Trump didn't even go there.
The Trump Golf Course charged the SS a phenominal amount of money....way over the normal rates......
At Mar a Lago the Secret Service would rent rooms while they were down there, maybe once or twice a month for a few days.
Trump changed the rental policy on the rooms, to a ludicously high flat fee for an entire monthly price. That also made it very easy for people, especially foreigners, to Launder money to him by renting rooms for a month or more and never even occupying them......
The longer he was in office and got away with his corrupt schemes, the braver and more daring he got. I believe we will never know the amount Ivanka and Jared grifted during the beginnings of the Covid nightmare, when PPE and Respirators were being paid for at ludicrous prices and never delivered, and countless other schemes of theirs......

(56 posts)Biden rented a cottage to the secret service from 2011 to 2017. Total cost $176,000. Keep the outrage for the true harm done by Dump.

(61,690 posts)$2,000 for a month vs almost $1,000 per day. $2,000 vs $30,000? The Bidens were recovering costs and utilities. Trump was just ripping off the public.

(16,884 posts)The charges of $2200 monthly for a cottage that could house multiple people and was the exact rent that the previous tenant paid and the local market rate sounds like a fair price. What Trump Org did in billing nightly, per room, is not the same thing and were jacked up prices to the usual rate.
