(10,146 posts)Other passengers listed on the manifest did not support the accuser's story.
From an International Business Times story, 2/25/21:
"'We were flying home from an October 2017 event in Western New York on his taxpayer-funded jet,' Boylan wrote in the post titled 'My story of working with Governor Cuomo.' 'He was seated facing me, so close our knees almost touched. His press aide was to my right and a state trooper behind us'...'Lets play strip poker,' Gov. Cuomo allegedly told Boylan while on the flight."
"Cuomos press secretary Caitlin Girouard dismissed Boylans claims as false. The press secretary cited logs of Cuomos flights in October 2017, and said they showed Boylan was never left alone with the governor, a single press aide and an NYS trooper during those flights...'As we said before, Ms. Boylan's claims of inappropriate behavior are quite simply false,' Girouard said in a statement, which listed out the manifests of four flights from the month when Boylan and Cuomo had flown together."
"The release also contained a statement signed by four current and former administration officials who were aboard the flights in which Boylan had accompanied the New York governor."

(21,422 posts)that a 3rd woman has come forward. She says that Cuomo touched her back and her face at a wedding in 2019 and asked if he could kiss her.
Since the other 2 complaints were only about things said, this one escalates the level to touching. At a crowded wedding reception.
I think it's time for some good investigative reporters to look into these women and their connections. Who got to them to prompt them to come forward? Then report who is behind this and why.

wnylib
(21,422 posts)details, but not quite in the way it was just presented here.
According to NPR, it was a crowded reception. Anna Ruch approached Cuomo to thank him for something. As they talked, he put his hand on her back. She was wearing a dress that was deep cut in back, which is why his hand touch her bare back. It's not like he slipped his hand up her skirt.
She moved away a few steps. NPR did not mention her removing his hand. He made a comment that she was an aggressive woman. No info on the tone he used. Might have been a compliment. Might have been a put down. He put his hands on her face and asked if he could kiss her.
Sounds to me like flirting at a social event. But, since I was not there, I can't know for sure.
NYT reported this story today. Maybe they have more details, but I am not sure I would trust their version.

(5,599 posts)Woman and have touched many people on the arm and back while talking. We are getting to a world of robotic interaction. I do not think Cuomo needs to resign because he inappropriately hit on women. He was single and most women have had someone hit on them that they were not interested in. He took no for an answer. I have told many men no.
So far nothing Ive read leads me to believe hes a monster rapist. Unfortunately it looks to me like hes being railroaded. Cuomo has been in politics a long time and these stories are barely coming to light??? He seems like hes gruff and bully, and plays hardball politics.
I do not want him to resign, I do want an investigation. Innocent until proven guilty. The timing of these allegations smells bad. I also think with the nursing home scandal his enemies( which Im sure are many) smell blood in the water and want to finish him off. Pile on the scandal. I dont buy it. I hope he hangs on.
wnylib
(21,422 posts)I also am beginning to think that there could be a potential Dem candidate who might be part of the pile on, or a faction of them and not just one person. NY politics are rough.
There are Dems in NY government pressurring Cuomo to resign. Cuomo has had 3 terms. There could be other Dems who want him out so they can have a chance. If that is what's happening, they better have a very strong candidate with a good chance of winning because, if they cost us a Dem governor, I swear to God I will never forgive them. The strongest GQP candidate for governor would be a nightmare - Tea Party Trumpist Tom Reed.
wnylib
(21,422 posts)a non issue. But there are Dems in NY government who are calling for Cuomo to resign, which makes me believe that this pile up on Cuomo is not led solely by the GQP. Maybe not even primarily led by them.

(47,370 posts)this past year and any Democrat who becomes popular on a national level is at risk of being Frankened. The right likes to undercut their potential future presidential rivals with accusations of sexual misconduct. They know that Democrats won't tolerate sexist behavior from their own and the accusations are pretty easy to make. Though they are often difficult to prove, if there are enough of them, it will leave a stench that is difficult to wash away.
They tried it with Biden after the fake Ukrainian scandal didn't stick and fortunately it didn't work. With Cuomo, they are doing a Franken replay. Put out the first accusation and just as people start to question it's veracity, throw a couple more into the mix. So without questioning the new allegations, people think "Wow, if there are so many complaints, I guess it must be true".
Part of what often makes the ruse so successful, is they take something that has a very slight element of truth to it and then play it up to be far more than it actually was. In the process, they instill a bit of guilt and remorse in their target. It didn't work with Biden, because the story was so far-fetched that he was able to clearly and emphatically say it was not true.

(3,003 posts)Fear. Fear of the power that many of these men wield. When one finally works up the courage to speak up, that generally encourages other women to speak up about what happened to them as well.
Fear. Fear of people dismissing their claims entirely out of hand. Fear that people will accuse them of being paid off, of looking to push a man down just so they could somehow get ahead. Fear that their claims, especially when made against politicians, will be dismissed as a political ploy.
Fear. Fear of abandonment for when they finally do speak out. It doesn't just have to be by friends or family either. It could be a larger group. A political party, even. And now that they have spoken up... We've got a lot of Democrats saying that they are being paid off as some Republican ploy. A lot of people have thrown them under to bus, have abandoned them under the bus.
Seeing some of the commentary that supposed Democrats are throwing their way... That they're being paid off by Republicans, that what happened to them wasn't 'really' sexual harassment, that it's just normal - everyday, acceptable - behavior, that 'oh, why are you smiling in that picture if he was harassing you?!?!'... Well, I'd say they have reason to be fearful that no one would believe them and that they would end up ostracized for speaking out.

(3,003 posts)It's why so many women are afraid to speak out. More often than not, it's a powerless woman against a powerful - Either politically, or monetarily - man.
And the responses here are straight out of the MRA/Republican playbook. Political motivations. Economic motivations. Why wait so long? Why are all the claims just popping up at once? Why are you smiling at the guy who is harassing you? Why aren't you fighting back?
The easiest way to get someones mask to slip in regards to supporting, to trusting, women is to see what they do when the claims are made against someone they consider to be one of their own. The police are said to have a blue wall that protects them. They're not the only group who prefers that color, who moves in to protect their own when someone dares to speak out against them.

Lets play strip poker.
I should have been shocked by the Governors crude comment, but I wasnt.
We were flying home from an October 2017 event in Western New York on his taxpayer-funded jet. He was seated facing me, so close our knees almost touched. His press aide was to my right and a state trooper behind us.
Thats exactly what I was thinking, I responded sarcastically and awkwardly. I tried to play it cool. But in that moment, I realized just how acquiescent I had become.
Governor Andrew Cuomo has created a culture within his administration where sexual harassment and bullying is so pervasive that it is not only condoned but expected. His inappropriate behavior toward women was an affirmation that he liked you, that you must be doing something right. He used intimidation to silence his critics. And if you dared to speak up, you would face consequences.
Thats why I panicked on the morning of December 13.
While enjoying a weekend with my husband and six-year-old daughter, I spontaneously decided to share a small part of the truth I had hidden for so long in shame and never planned to disclose. The night before, a former Cuomo staffer confided to me that she, too, had been the subject of the Governors workplace harassment. Her story mirrored my own. Seeing his name floated as a potential candidate for U.S. Attorney General the highest law enforcement official in the land set me off.
In a few tweets, I told the world what a few close friends, family members and my therapist had known for years: Andrew Cuomo abused his power as Governor to sexually harass me, just as he had done with so many other women.

(9,963 posts)If mere words or a hand on the back can be deemed as sexual assault, this country is in a big mess. By the age of 25, every woman should know how to say no to an unwanted suggestion from a man. Theres certainly been enough publicity about such situations. I spent my life in corporate America as a female manager in a male-dominated field. You learn very quickly to politely and clearly fend off any suggestive behavior. I suspect that politics is no different.
The complaints against Cuomo seem to have taken place with other people around, except possibly for the one in his office. Such behavior doesnt generally happen in public. Im skeptical of the reason these women suddenly decided to go public with their accusations that dont seem very substantial.
Tom Rinaldo
(22,912 posts)...before Democrats lock in our candidate for the next NY gubernatorial election. Biden welcomed scrutiny when false allegations were made against him, and they melted away when a spotlight was focused on them.
The biggest problem with Franken was that there was no investigation. Democrats stampeded to drive him out of the Senate based on sketchy reports from dubious sources. The main accuser was clearly compromised in fact. So far that has not been shown to be the case with those accusing Cuomo. The first two were people employed by him.
The standard is not to take women seriously unless they are accusing a Democrat. And I find nothing suspicious on its face when allegations burst near simultaneously. People are often hesitant to take on a powerful man alone, and are understandably reluctant to be the first person to stand against him. Personally I also think it plausible that women with allegations against Cuomo (which may or may not turn out to be true) might find themselves encouraged to speak out by members of a political party who have a stake in who becomes NY's next governor. But it is at least as likely that such encouragement is coming from fellow Democrats than from Republicans. The way that Cuomo operates has made him a lot of enemies among State Democrats, and mostly that isn't just over policy.

Now he's at the top of his approval rating and is getting ready to launch his re-election campaign in a few months, and all of a sudden the first accusation, someone who is running for Manhattan Borough President this year makes the first accusation.
Then a second one an encounter with just the two of them alone in an office.
Now the third, from someone who met him only once, for apparently just a minute or two, at a "crowded wedding reception". Here's a photograph of that, is this the setting for a "sexual encounter"?
No investigation, only a week or so after the first accusation, and now he's being called upon to resign?
BTW, the first one claimed he acted inappropriately during a flight on a "taxpayer paid jet", except that NYS doesn't own any jets, the Governor and others fly on helicopters or state-owned turboprops!
There should be an investigation, but until that time anyone calling for him to resign should just WAIT for the investigation!
