(58,785 posts)white nationalist, neonazi, fascist groups all believe in male domination of women, some extremely. Which really shines a light on the female "freedom fighters" who'd join them.
Proud Boys in particular is male-only and deeply misogynistic. Some chapters have allowed women to join bimbo-ish (my word) auxiliaries, but reportedly that's lead to a general hardening up of hostility to the idea among others. So a woman from AZ claiming to have been recruited by them is supposedly drawing scholarly interest, and skepticism.
Jessica Watkins of the Oath Keepers apparently really is; she's an Afghan vet and they try to recruit mostly trained cops and vets, though overwhelmingly male of course.

(7,510 posts)As for other women auxiliaries, they probably are a lot like motorcycle clubs or street gangs auxiliaries.

(58,785 posts)or not, she had to know, or should have same as any female, where she'd stand in their hierarchy. Maybe she liked the idea. As for the rest, imagine that's fairly likely, for neonazi motorcycle clubs especially.

(1,896 posts)In regard to those traveling at their own costs, we need to look at costs and benefits separately. The benefit to those paying their own way is twofold at a minimum. First it shows support directly in the size of the event, and then, had they achieved their goal, these attendees go home as local heroes. They get the stage. They are leaders in the takeover.
On the larger scale persons, materials, and equipment from areas close to DC were thought sufficient for the job.

(25,471 posts)The benefits were imaginary. They were delusions of grandeur and bullshit from a con artist. It was never going to be successful. None of that was ever going to apply.
A few of them have figured that out. Those are the ones now loudly proclaiming that it's Trump's fault.

(1,896 posts)When they get home they talk to the local groups. Rethink. Refine. Strategize. The leader was there, he saw what went wrong. He can fix it with their help. He is still in charge.
