This actually happened to me, I kept apologizing over and over to the employees.

(32,017 posts)Entered a store. Forgot my mask. It was in the vehicle, and the vehicle was a good, long hike from this store. Daughter was doing some shopping there, and I apologized profusely to staff about lacking a mask. Staff offered me a mask. I graciously accepted it and put it on, but I was, truly, embarrassed.
I dont want to endanger the health of others. Who would want to do that? I simply dont understand the anti-maskers. Its as if we come from different planets.

(310 posts)cheesy, I know, but a very accurate analogy of repuqeus types as a sort of fascist alien invader. Your comment reminded me of this movie..
I've stepped out the house, or car without a mask accidentally, and I catch myself luckily and snap it on, lol!
...I care about my fellow man, so I do what I can, and wearing a mask is part of that. WTAF is wrong with these fascistic planet killing monsters? and the characters in "they live"..

(32,017 posts)I do wonder, in my darkest hours, whether most Republicans are actually human. Things would make a lot more sense if they were actually exploitative aliens of the kind imagined in They Live.

I keep at least one in my car at all times.

(63,903 posts)I am shopping. It is as important to me as my drivers license and my debit card (special wallet sized zippered purse). I am never without one either by wearing or just leaving the car in a parking lot and walking to store). I also keep one in my jacket pocket or raincoat.

(22,478 posts)The thing was no one else was wearing masks. I was terrified. I just put my head down and paid really quickly and got out.
I got my shot the very next day and I told the nurse about what I had done. She said that I wasn't in the place for 15 minutes so I shouldn't worry. I suppose that is different than having someone breath or cough into your face.

(11,451 posts)Pre-covid and this lady not far from me sneezed, I tried to almost run with my cart away from her, (flu season) even before covid I knew what a sneeze could do.
I got one of the worst flu I have ever had, and I had my yearly shot. I think my immune system isn't the best.
Anyway, no flu or colds this year and I told hubby even after covid I am going to wear mask especially in the winter shopping.

(11,686 posts)Sneezing in my arm just does not seem sanitary. Not that doing it in my shirt is any more sanitary but at least it is more contained from others.
Another reason I do that is so I can do a full sneeze. Trying to hold a sneeze back hurts me.

(11,563 posts)Zinc is also helpful. The reason I'm so big on Vitamin D (should be D3) is a statistic I heard some months ago. Of all the people studied - and I have no idea of the size or scientific rigour of the study - showed that, of all the people hospitalized for COVID, 70% were Vitamin D-deficient, and only 4% had adequate Vitamin D levels.
While not conclusive, it very strongly suggests that a few bucks spent on a bottle of pills isn't the worst money you'll ever spend.
I take 2000mg a day. 1000mg is about the low end of what was recommended, and 4000 is better. The doctor talking about the study takes 5000mg, but that is also partly convenience. There are apparently single pills that contain that amount, although I've not been able to find them.

(10,429 posts)Just another reason to hate having to wear them - it's one more thing to potentially forget. I got all the way to the post office once (15 min drive) none in the car, forgot to grab one, had to wrap my scarf around my face and run in and out quick, it was embarrassing.

(58,785 posts)but I did have a nice, long conversation with someone who came to my door once. That person wasn't wearing a mask, and I didn't remember Covid, masks, or anything.

(12,421 posts)Once at the town dump, where they are strict about not opening the service window unless you have a mask, and once I breezed into a Stewart's shop to pay for my gas and was mortified as I was leaving because I had just realized it. Nobody called me on it.

(21,130 posts)Was going into a office supply store and this guy gave me a strange look and to my horror I realized I forgot to put my mask on. I literally ran back to my car and put that mask on. I am not a young spring chicken but I surprised myself how fast I ran back to my car!

(11,686 posts)I did not realize it until I got in my car to leave. Actually I did it twice. First time to pay for my gas and second time to get my change. I felt shitty all day and kept telling myself I am an idiot.
I can understand us forgetting when this first started but it has been more than a bloody year and it should just be natural.
I must admit I still feel like an idiot for that.

got within a foot of myself, so I turned around and started coughing through my mask. It was funny watching how
fast he ran to another checkout lane, one lady even gave me a thumbs up for my performance which made my day.

(45,427 posts)you never know who you'll run into in the hallways or elevator or stairwells so I wear a mask even to take out garbage/recycling. If sharing items with neighbors, we leave it outside their door and then text them to minimize contact. Same with deliveries.

(2,894 posts)but I forgot to bring one (and didn't bring my purse or coat... which both have masks in them), since I was planning to stay in the car while my son picked up takeout... and then I decided to come with him (the customer stays outside and they push the food out through a drawer), and suddenly, after I left the car, I realized I was walking on the street with no mask, and it was so disorienting. We had backups in the car (so I went back to get one), and it was night, and the street in front of the restaurant was deserted... but it was like dreaming that I forgot to wear clothes!

And I kept forgeting to put one on as I leave my apartment (they're suppose to be worn in common areas like the hallway). I finally make sure I keep one hanging on the doorknob. (As well as a couple in my purse, coat pocket, and car).
You would think that after a year it would just be second nature.
