Chance of impeachment? Probably higher than resigning but unlikely.

(102,225 posts)The Lt. Governor is a Democratic woman so I highly doubt she would do such a thing. Why would she?

(35,454 posts)"We are seriously considering it," Rep. Tom Reed, R-Corning, told the USA TODAY Network New York last week.
Reed is among a number of Republicans who are eyeing a run in 2022, a list that also includes Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro, who ran in 2018, and Reps. Lee Zeldin and Elise Stefanik.
And there is also a host of Democrats being discussed, such as Attorney General Letitia James, outgoing New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio or Westchester County Sen. Alessandra Biaggi."

I did wonder why Ms. Biaggi was being so adamant that Cuomo has to resign. Zeldin/Stefanik...no way.

(5,123 posts)If he resigns, the Lt Gov becomes the governor. If this is what people are worried about, that is another good reason for him to resign.
The gubernatorial election is next year. Just as when his predecessor Elliot Spitzer resigned, the Lt Gov David Patterson, filled out the term as Governor.
Of course there will be a republican opponent next year. Duh! Isn't that what we do in elections?
Even if he does not resign, there will still be an election with a republican opponent.

(13,491 posts)This is the executive office until Dec. 31, 2022. We have almost two years of this Democratic Admin. If Cuomo goes, his Lietenant Governor would be in charge until then.
And in two years, if Trump has been criminally charged, it'll be really unpopular in NY State to pardon him.

(4,111 posts)is Kathy Hochul, a Democrat - I don't think there'd be much chance of her pardoning Trump or stopping the investigations.

(5,306 posts)Unless he committed an actual crime he's not about to resign. Worst case scenario his popularity sinks so low he doesn't seek re-election. Other than that, he's not going anywhere.

(13,491 posts)We would have democratic lieutenant governor in charge until end of next year. Then election. While it's possible for a republican governor at that point, it would be unpopular to pardon trump in NY state.
If Gov. Cuomo resigns or is impeached, Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul would serve as Governor until the end of Gov. Cuomos term, according to N.Y.s Constitution, on December 31, 2022.
