Fauci calls loosening Covid-19 restrictions inexplicable as variants threaten another surge

By Madeline Holcombe, CNN

(CNN)While tens of thousands of Americans are infected with the coronavirus each day and more research suggests variants threaten another surge, some state leaders are loosening Covid-19 restrictions against the recommendations of health experts.

The decision to rollback measures is "inexplicable," said Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. "I understand the need to want to get back to normality, but you're only going to set yourself back if you just completely push aside the public health guidelines -- particularly when we're dealing with anywhere from 55 to 70,000 infections per day in the United States," Fauci told CNN's Erin Burnett.

The governors of Texas and Mississippi said Tuesday they were lifting mandates and allowing businesses to operate at full capacity, announcements that came in the midst of health experts warning that the spread of more transmissible variants risks sending infection rates soaring once again.

Of particular concern to health experts is the B.1.1.7 variant which was first identified in the UK and has now been found in 44 US states as well as Puerto Rico and Washington, DC. Researchers the Centre for Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine published evidence Wednesday that a person with that variant can infect 43-90% more people than the older versions of the virus.

from entering and contaminating our state. We're just starting to see some light at the end of the Covid tunnel here in Michigan, but all the progress we've made could be undone by these red-state assholes. WT actual F?

We now have 2 votes for it in Michigan.

If we did it, we could reopen the border at Windsor and Sault Ste Marie for Michigan and Ontario residents.

Here's mine.

It's actually two fold:

The lull in positive cases we're seeing right now is not due to vaccination. THERE HAVE NOT BEEN ENOUGH PEOPLE VACCINATED YET! (Got that, Wall Street, Madison Ave, Republicans, Texas, Mississippi, and Florida?)

Instead, since this is all new with an mRNA type virus. It may be:

1) Americans are exhausted with the testing and have stopped doing it. There's only so many times even the most germophobic people are going to stand having a q-tip forcibly swirled around deep in their head holes. 2) The initial dominant variant is beginning to burn out. So, now it's time for another variant to emerge from the fetid petri dish the USA has become which is just contagious and different enough to get by any immunity built up by the initial variant. Keep in mind, viruses never sleep. It's still debatable if they are even really alive. All they do is reproduce and they are very good at it.

its in the GOP interest to make sure COVID runs rampant. They want to pin the failures on Joe Biden if there is a new spike of cases and deaths. The GOP does not care if this means more deaths.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in the U.S., I have often saved quotations of Dr. Anthony Fauci in order to stay focused. One of these quotes was taken from The New York Times on July 21, 2020: "Of all the viruses and outbreaks that I have been involved with over the last four decades, I have never seen a virus in which the spectrum is so extreme. This disease goes from nothing to death!"

Now I share with you a link from the tabloid, The Daily Mail. The pictures, taken after the lifting of Covid mandates in the state, speak for themselves. Mississippi, by the way, usually ranks as the most unhealthiest state in the nation. At the top of the article there is a bullet statement: Mississippi is the only state to see a spike in coronavirus cases during the week of February 23.
