NEWCDC warns #COVID19 is "on the cusp" of potential resurgence, with cases & deaths rising. Highly-transmissible #B117 variant can "hijack our successes", as fatigue leads precautions being "flagrantly ignored".

(18,740 posts)..essentials. Hubby works full time but his job is pretty safe. We ventured out to the "reservation only for one hour masked up" Wine Bar for our Anniversary. Only one other table of folks way on the other side of the room. We felt very safe but we arent going to let that tempt us to go out more often or to take ANY chances. We are even re-considering going to the outside wedding of our neighbors daughter because they are all cowboys and Ive never seen anyone in that family mask up.
Years ago when hubby was in Pharmacy School he told me the one thing that scared him the most was a Virus. he said thats whats gonna wipe us out. Then silly me read The Hot Zone and Pandemic (this was in the 90s). You always take a virus at its word that its gonna try its best to kill you.

(4,584 posts)I remember there was this patient that was admitted with a virus that they were baffled with because nothing was working. The docs said that viruses mutate so fast that science couldn't keep up with them.
Those doctors were right on the money.

(25,111 posts)because of spring break coupled with profits. Woo la la.
Many of these governors do not care about the welfare of their constituents except the ones that are well to do.
And again fantasy land is an ever ending storing when it comes to these whack politicians while fueling un-American conspiracies to their effed up cult.

Local newspapers here filled with obits of old and very very old people.
Be lots of instances for GQP to stand up dead voters in 2022!

(793 posts)People who do not respect the power of this virus are fools. I hope that the people of Texas, and in other states where governors insanely lift Covid-19 safeguards, have the sense to protect themselves and those they care about. (Mississippi: the unhealthiest state in the country!) Locomotives don't stop on a dime and neither will this virus. All we can do is to keep our heads down as many here have demonstrated. It's not rocket science: wear masks, wash your hands, keep your distance, avoid hot beds of infection. Why is this so hard? Why would people not want to protect themselves from a pathogen that can have devastating, life-altering consequences? Taking measures to protect yourselves and others isn't a liberal or conservative thing. It's a life-saving thing.

(7,604 posts)Convenient store clerks in rural Texas insisting on wearing masks behind the counter? They're going to be tormented by customers who will feign insults to demand that the clerks remove their masks. Then the clerks will get sick, and some will die.
Beto O'Rourke is right. Follow the money. Abbot is getting donations from people who benefit from an open market in Texas. He's being bought, regardless of the deaths that his decision will bring.
Abbot will be exposed for civil lawsuits from people who know and can prove that "opening up Texas" will cause real deaths. Those victims' families will have plenty of evidence gathered in broad daylight.

(9,298 posts)Pfizer and Moderna are working on a booster shots for the variants. I think, in about 6 months, we will all be inline to get those. Amazing technology.

(24,899 posts)Some of the best scientists and doctors foresee the dangers of the mutating coronavirus and warn people to stay vigilant.
The Texas and Mississippi governors decide on their own to lift all safety protocols just in time for Spring Break.
What could possibly go wrong?

(7,604 posts)Texas and Mississippi governors can't resist the praise and the donations. A rise in the death count is collateral damage, and nothing more. These governors view citizens as less important than money. Even those who manage funeral parlors and crematoriums can goose their profits.
We can expect that, at some point, funeral parlor associations might go on the record as increasing donations to the Texas and Mississippi GOP. A happy virus means a happy profit margin for the funeral parlors and crematoriums.

(42,770 posts)protects you against severe and grave cases. Sounds great, BUT...
My question is, if you have a 20-30% chance then of getting a mild case, if and when you do, you will be contagious. It doesn't translate to others as a mild case does it? Say you get J&J, come down with a mild case, your unvaccinated grandma could get it from you and get a severe case, right?

(12,182 posts)Looks like Abbott has scored with another masterstroke, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
I know there are many more people to acknowledge, most of whose contributions are not being fully appreciated. If they can keep up this high-pressure ignorance, they could have their little part of the world slipping past Paraguay or Lesotho on their way to the basement.
That needs recognition, right? What say you? All aboard the Banana Republic train!
