White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Thursday delivered a brutal response when asked about giving former President Donald Trump credit for the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines in the United States.
During her daily press briefing, Psaki was asked about comments made by Admiral Brett Giroir, the former assistant secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services, who argued recently that he and his colleagues in the Trump White House should be getting more praise for the work they did in planning the distribution of the vaccine.
"I don't think anyone deserves credit when half a million people in the country have died of this pandemic," Psaki replied bluntly. "What our focus is on, and what the president's focus is on when he came into office just over a month ago, was ensuring that we had enough vaccines -- we are going to have them now."

(11,571 posts)The left has lost many valuable months, during which they could have cemented that in people's heads. Not that a lot of them need more cement in their heads, but it's just an expression.

Just kidding guys. I hope you're both blissfully happy and remain so. I just got tangled up with the wrong one, and I myself am a little contrary to ordinary, so we were wrong for each other. Every relationship is what the two people make of it.

(14,176 posts)I'm still waiting for someone to make it clear that there are estimates out there that something like 40% of deaths could have been prevented if Trump had taken the pandemic seriously and lead from that premise, as other countries have done.
That is over 200,000 dead Americans. That didn't have to be. I wish someone in Biden's team would bring that up when asked questions like that. I want someone to say, "if someone has died that you know, a relative or friend, from COVID this past year, they could still be here if it wasn't for Trump, if they were part of that 40%"
Trump basically murdered over 200,000 Americans through political cowardice, indifference, and incompetence. And I do not hear him being called out for that one bit.

If anyone deserves credit, it's the medical scientists whose desire to quench an international pandemic drove most of the work with the support of the universities and corporations that funded them.
I'm sure the CDC and NIH deserve a lot of credit and praise as well for their supportive work.

(11,744 posts)The reporter set it up, maybe to get a sound byte of Psaki attacking Trump, but she parried wonderfully. She is 100% correct. NO ONE deserves any credit on the handling. There is still work to be done. Not only does the quote highlight that HALF A MILLION Americans are dead, but also, in light of what Republicans are doing in the Senate, and in states like Texas and Mississippi, the work that continues and who is actually doing the work.
If you look at the countries that "deserve credit", the deaths they suffered are akin to a flu season, maybe a bad flue season. There is no way in hell that we have lost HALF A MILLION people, except for the incompetence and malice in the GOP handling of the pandemic.

(15,290 posts)worked very hard to make the vaccine rollout as good as it could possibly be. To me, this kind of response is a real insult to the hard-working and competent federal workforce, the ones in the weeds doing the real work of making government run. The ones who are still on the job today, doing the same yeoman work.
